not relly related, but kinda... There is a second VIN stamped into the pass. side fender apron (you can't see it until you remove the pass. fender). I just cut mine off and am replacing it with an apron from a salvaged car, as part of a repair process. I guess I'm not worried, becuase I NEVER intend on parting with my Mav anyway.
Never, and I mean NEVER, try to deal with the NC DMV on any kind of common sense level. Once upon a time I lived in Charlotte and had to deal with those folks on a daily basis. I was a motor vehicle inspector. They were totally ignorant about anything dealing with cars, and it was their job! NC has some way of hiring DMV folks that makes sure they are clueless IMO. Been there, done that... wouldn't tell them anything about my business. They don't know any better on their own. The only time they make a stink is if you give too much info. Play dumb as they are. Dave
a lot of states are like that. my first vehicle was purchased Non operational in north cali. had the engine out and was in pieces. I argued with the lady for 20 minutes about my having to get a smog check for a "non operational" title and registration. took her manager another 10 to figure it out.
Yea, I know better than to call the locals on this. They don't have a clue about cars and will tell me that I can't change the VIN or I'd have to register the new VIN or something silly... make me pay registration taxes on my car again. Littleredtoy, thanks. Since its on the dash, it doesn't matter, I'm keeping my dash.
