$150.00, and check around, some ole timey shops will be cheaper. Watch out, cheap in exhaust terms usually means 1 year life. Dan
Max these guys on here are your friends, have you ever heard the saying "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish he'll eat for a lifetime? What this great group of guys are trying to say is, take things one step at a time, make the decisions in order, provide yourself with food, shelter, and a Job, and a way to get to it, which you have, once those things are stabilized. SAVE SAVE SAVE for the next breakdown, once you have money saved, get a partime job for your hobby ( Maverick) , but continually save for the breakdowns, if you're lucky the old car you have will let you save enough to trade on a Newer lower mileage car.... (Thats NEW-Er not new), MAx I was in your same spot, and I feel for you man, when I was first married I had a home a good job and a wife , and kids, I drove a near new pinto wagon, but my priorities were screwed up, I took the first opportunity I had to go into debt for a $1000 set of wheels and tires for the car.. stupid!! 2 months later the timing belt went then the exaust... ended up selling the car for $500 bucks, my next car was a 79 diplomat, bought from my uncle for $250.00 , did i learn a lesson?, no still made a stupid move, I JUST HAD to have a 4x4 so I took my first bonus from my job and bought an International scout for $250, what happened , you guessed it a month or 2 later the tranny went on the Diplomat, I drove crap cars for 5 years, finally gave up on the "dream project", until I could actually pay my bills and get a decent daily driver, Max you don't have to give up on the Mav, just , wait a little, get the ' core things in life secured, then do the Mav tell every person you know, for birthdays christmas etc, just give you a gift card to o'reillys or cash, and then use that for the Mav. but believe you will look back on the Mav progect fondly, if you don't spend that same time, worried and stressed about the basics of life. You were kinda hard on these guys, and they have been very supportive of you on this sight, we are your long distance buddies, but you gotta take the advise man, because your future depends on the decisions you make now. Ask anyone with an old project car, these don't become daily drivers over night, I have had my Comet for 7 years and am just now getting things done to it, but can I drive it daily hell no, it's old , I gotta lot to replace to get it up to snuf, then gotta plan for normal wear and tear, You can do the exaust yourself with some ramps, and the right pieces, but don't fix it up as a daily driver, cause it isn't ready for it. Do the Metro, then save for the next repair, don't touch the exaust on the Mav until the metro is drivable and you have $200-$500 in the bank AND a regular plan for saving for repairs, other wise you are chasing your tail, also if you do the cheapest repirs for the Mav you'll frustrate yourself down the road when all those cheap parts start going south, Max we are here to help, but ultimately you gotta help your self, by making wise mature descisions, I know I was you 20 years ago man, so i know how you feel,
You know what Max? My maverick is in far better condition than yours and I STILL would not use it for a daily driver. It's over 30 years-old and something is always going to break on it. If you use a reliable ecconomy car for your daily work-horse, you can save so mush more money up for your Maverick and fix it up twice as quickly. Being impatient will actually result in taking longer to make your Maverick nice, fun , and reliable. Either fix the Geo, or trade it in on a more reliable ecconomy car. I'm telling you, it will put money in your pocket in the long run....
