No reason to be sorry Vern, no worries. This is a public forum. You just asked a question. Keep us posted on your progress. And, disregard the negativity and turf wars!
It's all good in the hood Vern, don't worry about it. There have been some personal animosities brewing here and that is entirely not your fault. BTW, speaking from experience, if your car is running great, don't mess with it. Work on the stuff that needs attention.
that is what I am doing fixing the things that break and working slowly on the cosmetic aspect..I love my car brings me back to my teenage days tearing up the road infront of the high school.....
It's alright Vern. There are just some topics that need more information. Then there are people like T.L. who think that everyone on the planet should run a 2 1/2" exhaust and a 600 cfm carb because that's what all of his magazine articles say. By the way T.L........if you were any dumber you'd have to be watered twice a week.
Ok it is a holley 4bbl 80457 on my car the motor has a mild cam, performer rpm intake, msd ignition, dual exhaust with an 8 inch rear, 3.73 gears, front disk conversion, black interior. primer gray exterior, Question is what is the proper gap on a spark plug with msd ignition???? Is there enough information yet or would the vin number help also Sorry guys had to do it I finally got some sleep and stopped seeing double..
Okay... Here's your carb: 600 cfm, vac secondary, single inlet, electric choke, non-adjustable floats (?new one on me?), a late model design... No rear pump or metering plate. Now, we need the list number off the carb he is wanting to trade. However, IMO you have a very new and worry free street carb there. Holleys can be fickle, and if he wants to trade a carb that is more than a couple years old, you might consider it 'trading down'. Won't know without the full list number off his carb. If there is a 'dash and number' after the main list number, you need that too to deterimine an approxamate age. If the one he wants to trade is a 80783, personally, I would jump on it. Dual feed, center hung bowls, vac secondary, metering block, electric choke, and Ford kickdown linkage. This one is a definate step up from yours. All depending on condition, of course. If it is a 4777-#, then it well could be much more valuable (depending on age), but it would be very thirsty on the street. If it was newish and in great shape, you could sell it for a profit, then pick up a 570 Street Avenger. That 570 is the perfect carb for what you describe. It has everything the 650 I describe above has, but sized more economically. Dave Edit: .040" to .045" is my fav plug gap for electronic ignition on the street.
Great "come-back". You're such a f-ing GENIUS. By the way, 'any national automotive publications offered you a job yet??...
Nahhh dude, you're telling him wrong. He needs at least a 650 or 750. Telling him otherwise just makes you as "dumb" as a plant. He probably needs a 3 or 4-inch dual exhaust system as well...
hold on hold on i got somethin , quad(4) system exhaust put a Y pipe on the end of each header or manifold quad 4 inch exhaust should be plenty
No. I actually build and race cars instead of writing about them. Or reading about them while being an absolute jackass on a message board.
