Honestly my Comet is really worth not a whole hell of a lot. It needs paint, body work and the bumpers rechromed. It is worth more then the $200 i paid for it in 1993. But for me it's priceless, it's mine, it's different from all others, it makes me think of my Mom's first car, and my kids love it (Daddy's purple car). It has been to a ton of car shows, swap meets and cruises. Brought me to college as my only car (way back in the day) for at least 2 years- rain, snow, (I'M A BAD BOY) summer, fall, winter, spring. It's not worth much to the classic car people but to me it's priceless and no matter how much money i have (win the million) i will not sell it. Which is worth more- a Maverick or a Comet- who cares, what's it worth to you. For me....... it is and they are......... ALL OF 'EM, ARE WORTH A TON TO ME. ALL MY LIFE I HAVE LOVED THESE CARS.......So with that said, really what are they worth to you? Oh by the way, Comet's do better burn out's....... so their worth more and there is that whole Pinto/ Maverick taillight thing! Just my thoughts.
yoU'd bETter ruN, frAnK .... seriously ... neither one of them are that valuable in the musclecar world, but Comet-specific parts in good shape tend to cost a bit and took much more searching (especially prior to the Internet) ... hoods, grilles, bumpers ... and there is a strange shortage of GT scoops ... seem to be heavily used by Mav-boys ...
Ya'll don't know anything. Don't you know the value of ANYTHING depends on if I am buying or selling?
The value of anything depends on the supply and demand...... There are fewer Comets but fewer people want them.... "just the facts ,ma'am, just the facts." we used to call them "vomits" back in the day but lets face it they are the same car with some minor sheet metal changes.
Hey don't listen the these "Maverick" guys, they're just pissed off that the fastest car on the site is a MERCURY COMET from South Carolina!!!!!
No Lincoln Is the stepup for ford and mercury is the stepdown. It goes in this order. 1.Lincoln 2.Ford 3.Mercury
Nope! As far as luxury and price: 1-Lincoln 2-Mercury 3-Ford Today: 2010 Ford Fusion MSRP $19,270- $27,675 Invoice $17,986- $25,357 2010 Mercury Milan MSRP $21,180 - $27,800 Invoice $19,547 - $25,505 8.6% more for bottom end invoice. Mercury has always been the middle edition player in the Ford camp.
I worked at a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in the 80's, we were always higher priced than the Ford dealers. It was hard to believe that a Topaz, was more money than a Tempo
JMO fords look better MOST of the time just look at my favorite car the 69 torino fastback and the 69 cyclone fastback...... ewwwwww. for some reason they liked that pointy front end and entirely too much chrome!
I think that's one of the things that have gotten the manufacturers in such pitiful shape now...duplicating theirselves too much. You can see what they are doing right now...cutting out car lines...closing dealerships. It wouldn't suprise me if Mercury was the next to go. I read today where Chrysler is going to "FIRE" about 800 dealerships. That along with 2000-3000 GM dealerships by year 2010 that has already been announced. I really don't know if this is going to be good or bad for our Toyota dealership...hopefully good. So far our sales have been off but nothing like the other guys. They have already closed the local GMC/Pont/Buick/Olds dealership, Chrysler dealership, and rumors are floating about the local 35 year old Dodge dealership. That will leave us (Toyota), our sister store, (Ford/Linc/Merc/Nissan), and the Chevy/Cadillac dealerships. If people do start buying again it may be great for us, if they don't, hopefully we'll survive.
I don't think this a was GOOD question to ask here but it was funny reading all the comments personally I like them both so I bought one of each so I did'nt have to take sides LOL....................................
