The Samden compressor is very popular because it uses perhaps 1/3 of the horsepower to run it compared to the old York boat anchors, IIRC. The fact that they are smaller and work better are pluses, too. If mine gets to that stage where I feel I need to put AC back in working order in my Comet, I will be running the factory underdash (already rebuilt and installed mainly so I would at least have heat), along with a Samden.
A Vintage Air kit starts around $1400. A little more than $1000..But if they are going to sell it and install it for less than the cost, that's not a bad deal, I guess.
I think it would look better too. That big old compressor sitting atop of the engine detracts from anything one might do to add some bling to the engine compartment.
Living in Florida, I wud say it's a no-brainer on putting it in working order - esp. since you already have it. It does look better IMO, plus it works better - how can u go wrong w/ that combo?
That is a great deal - I almost have that much in mine w/ having it charged and I installed it myself. Knowing what I now know - If offered that deal I wud jump at it if I didn't want to do it myself.
