I "might" have access to another truck engine. It is supposed to be 351W out of a 1985-6 ford pickup. Would this be roller cam? Would it be safe to build to 393 etc? Haven't seen it yet, and may not even have access to it, but if not, I might start looking in the yards for similar. Is there a 351W that is not good for high revs/high-torque stroker kit, even if it comes in a truck? How much hassle to mount this in the car with c4 trans? I am pretty sure I can use my ported torker 289, gt40ps, and headers on it...I guess they would swap. I have seen "built" crate motors running close to 400+ HP with GT40s, not Ps, so I assume my Ps with work as well or better.
That year won't be setup for a roller cam. Plenty of stroker kits available for it. C4 will bolt up just make sure you have the proper balance on the flexplate. Heads will work but keep in mind more cubic inches, more flow, intake will not due to the increased deck height of a 351. The 351 uses a wider intake
This is considered a 351W, isnt it? The guy selling described it as a 5.6 or 5.7L and thinks it is 351. Sounds about right to me.
Not a roller cam block. Heads will swap. Intake won't fit. Headers won't work. GT40P heads will be "so-so" on a 351. It'll run out of airflow pretty quick though. If you decide on a 351W, especially a stroker, do yourself a favor and buy either Dart, TFS, or AFR heads. GT40/GT40P heads are marginal on stock stroke windsor engines. They have no place on a stroker.
remember that theres no rush, you have a runner under the hood to drive as is. put the other block on a stand in the corner and add parts as you get them. when you get get the cash for a part like heads, look at all the mustang sites and such looking for a decent deal. just make a decision on how you are going to build it before you start anything. that way you know roughly what chamber size your heads need to be and what not.good luck on getting that block.
If your thinking of a 393, forget using anything you now have from the 302. 393 takes airflow your heads can't supply (to do justice to a 393). The AFR 205 or bigger are the starting point for heads. You have to remember that this size displacment is approching big block numbers and needs to be treated as such. BTW, only 93-94 years were roller blocks, then not in all trucks. 85-87 351w are thinner casting of the same old block from it's beginning in 69.
OK, I let the truck go, because it would be too difficult to dispose of the truck after the engine is taken out and the current owner gets his wheels back. But, I can get a 1990 5.8 L EFI from a van for $150 (3 in stock) to start working on. So I am still going to go through with this, but will start from a non-running engine. I agree with putting it on a stand in the corner and slowly adding parts until it is built. Anyone suggest a thread or website (or other resource) to start me in the right direction regarding what parts I will need, specifically, to make it mate up to my engine bay and C4 trans? I have the FORD Engine Overhaul Manual, so the rebuild won't be that much of an issue, just the putting it all into the car part...

Thanks, that is the kind of thing I was needing. Now, like Sierra asked, will a late 80s-early 90s 351W block hold up to the abuse, or is there a different year range I should look for?
It'll handle the abuse. Check your other thread. Main girdle and studs. Oh, and by the way......you do have a pretty good source of info on engine building pretty close. (hint, hint)
