Can the a/c compressor be relocated to be used in a 1 belt serpentine system?

I have a late model a/c compressor, and late model single serp belt brackets and pullies.

To use this the way the factory intended I'd have to run a reverse flow water pump, and radiator which I don't want to do.

Just wondering if the ac compressor could be relocated to the passenger side and a short belt be used, thus keeping the ability to run a standard rotation water pump.

Yeah i was thinking about that, but with removing power steering I'm going to probably run into the same problem. Is there a way to run a v belts with no power steering and a late model compressor? Or am I stuck with the big huge POS compressor?

I swapped a late model 5.0 out of a stang into my Mav about six years ago and it has the reverse rotation water pump and serpentine belt setup (with the 5.0 a/c and power steering pumps) and I am using my stock Mav radiator. While the reverse pump is spun the opposite way of the stock Mav one, the water flow is the same, so you shouldn't have any problems with the serpentine belt setup/reverse rotation pump working with the stock Mav radiator. Mine has worked perfectly with absolutely no problems. Any reason you don't want the reverse rotation pump?

I thought, and was told it would not work
can you elaborate a little more on how the flow is the same?
I thought it was not, and this is why i have been frustrated in this process.
And can a reverse flow pump be used with a standard cover?

i removed my P/S also...my late model compressor is mounted on the driver side, if that makes a diff.

    Wow thanks Frank!
That look good. Is that the stock A/c tensioner?
If so that may be the route i take. I see you also put the stock v pulley on the late model altenator, and did the same with the late model a/c compressor?

IF thats what you did, my troubles are over. I found a reman a/c compressor at autozone online for 105.00 so thats totally doable.

I'm not sure about the reverse rotation pump with the standard cover as I have never done it myself, but I would recommend keeping reverse rotation cover/pump together and vice versa. I have heard people use mismatched parts and it apparently made them over heat - I don't know from personal experience, but that's what I've heard.

The 5.0 pump is actually reverse rotation, not flow. With the 5.0 it was necessary for the pump to be turned the opposite of "normal" for the serpentine belt routing, so the impeller vanes inside the pump were switched direction so when the pump is spun the opposite way of "normal" it still pushes water the correct way. Hope that makes more sense. I tried to find a diagram, but couldn't.

    Eddie,
Earl and i had our A/C systems installed at an A/C shop in Atl. that does a lot of "street Rods". i don't know where he got the brackets and pulleys. he has retired sence then.
Earl might know, maybe he can get the info for you...
Terry knows him and may be able to help. :yup:

There are conversion brackets available to replace your old style piston compressor with a new style. Have a look at some of the Mustang suppliers, I know NPD has them for sure.
