I picked up this maverick and it was basically stripped.

I just had some questions about the wiring. I have a few pics I will upload here to help out.

When I put the motor in it I will be transferring it from my 70 F100. I will also be able to use whatever wiring I need from it as well.

I see in the maverick there is no voltage regulator box that goes to the wiring harness and the alternator and all that. Does anyone have an easy to read diagram for how that needs to be hooked up and what is actually essential?

I won't be running any factory idiot lights or anything like that so I just need the voltage regulator to work and to figure out exactly what I need.

So first off what are these connectors and what purpose do they serve? Any ign hots here to note?

    same question with this plug?

I'm wondering where the other little bullet connector for this relay comes from? What purpose does it serve?
Also where should the other orange wire go thats coming from the relay positive go? I see it has some sort of resistor on it?

Ok and last question. This is from the harness on the passenger side closer to the front of the car. The wire I tried to get a picture of is a Green wire with a red stripe. Previous owner just has it cut off. Where does this wire need to go or is it not necessary.

Ultimately I'm just trying to figure out how I need to hook everything up just to have the motor running and the alternator charging as it should.
A few spare ignition hot wires would be nice to know of as I'm running a mallory cdi box and an electric fuel pump.

    I appreciate any help here.
I can take better pictures if need be.

I dont know much but I know the connector in the 2nd pic is for the washer fluid jug.

    BTW

The green/red wire is used to provide 12V directly to coil when cranking, isn't needed with a aftermarket system... It was connected from solenoid back to the plug on left side of engine compartment that is same color...

Sorry a little confused about what you were saying.
Does the green / red wire go the the post on the starter solenoid that isn't being used.

    Thanks

    Thanks for the info.
I suppose I will just run a one wire to make it as simple as possible.

    Yup...

As I said it's not necessary with aftermarket systems(at least the ones I've seen)... Mine is going to "loose" that wire as well...

Ok thanks I really appreciate it. That must be why the PO of the car had that green/red wire cut and nothing else going to the solenoid.

I looked on summit and found that 1 wire alternator that I posted a link of above.

With the 1 wire alternator they are internally regulated correct? so all I need to connect is just the 1 wire going to the battery.

Hopefully when the time gets closer to dropping the motor I can throw a battery in it and figure out which one of the other connector wires are ignition hots and start wiring everything up.

    Thanks again.

Anyone have any tips or advice for a 1 wire setup.

I am a complete wiring idiot.
I have found several 3g alternators for mustangs but have heard that sometimes the v belt pulley will require shimming to work with the 3g.

Also I see on the 3g it is suppose to have a plug plugged into it..... do i just ignore that plug and run the hot off the alternator post to the hot side of the solenoid??

Sorry if my questions are retarded........ knowing that I am retarded pictures would be extremely helpful and maybe a part number of the alternator I need.

    Thanks :D

using a 1 wire alternator is very easy.
you just need to run one wire from the post on the alt. to the positive on the battery. the wire needs to be big enough to handle the amperage rating of the alternator. i would recommend using at least an 8 gauge wire or bigger.

the 3g alt is a great alternator. they usually are 130 amp. it does require all the connections on it to be properly wired up.

their is lots of debate between using 1 wire alternators and more traditional alternators like the 3g. it all revolves around how the alternator senses what voltage to put out. the 1 wire is sensing it at the wire that goes to it. the traditional alternators have a wire that usually comes from the key switch. this allows the alternator to be able to compensate for voltage drops through the system which are very common on the old wiring in these cars.

Is there an affordable one wire alternator out there that is a bolt up for a traditional 302 setup? I looked at a few tuff stuff ones from summit and considered using the ford tuff stuff but not sure that is a bolt on and go setup.

It's easy enough to go to the 3G, If you have a pick & pull the can usually be had for $15-$25(at least that what I paid for the one on my T-Bird)... Besides the alt just need the plug which should be on the donor vehicle...

    pict of needed plug...

Only thing that bothers me on using the orig green trigger wire is there is a 15 ohm resistor parallel the alt light in the original 1G circuit while the 3G uses a 500 ohm... What I plan to do on my Comet is clip the original resistance and add a 500 ohm in series... The 3G isn't going to care about a slightly difference resistance(515 ohm in this case) but I have serious doubts about drawing a amp of current through the excite circuit using the original 15 ohm resistance wire...

any 1 wire should work. the ford bracketery is very forgiving for fitting different size alternators. you just want the mounting tabs to be 180 degrees apart from each other.
make sure you get one that has enough amperage to meet all you added electrical components, like fuel pump, ignition system, electric fan, ect...
