Well......I figured it was AMC's direct competition with the Maverick....so might as well own it.

I raced a Gremlin X back when my Sprint was new. I had split headers on it so he thought I was running a 302. I stayed even with him up to around 60 mph. Then he started walking away. After the race he was pretty proud untill I opened my hood.

"Craig-you come up with some weird stuff.
401 won't work. Pistons point the opposite direction,
distributor is on the firewall and oil pan won't clear
    even a Grabber hood"

Wrong: The distributor is in the front of the engine just like the SB Ford. See...[IMG]

Or maybe you were just pokin' fun at him. Also, it should be said and made a well-known fact that ALL AMC 390's and 401's came with FORGED RODS and CRANKS. Don't ask me how I know. But if you really want to....I had an '87 Grand Wagoneer that I transplanted a 401 into.

A buddie of mine had a Gremlin with a 401 in it. It also had a posi and that car would swap ends at the drop of a hat. One night we were pulling out of the local drive in curb service, he got on it and we ended up going the other other way. Quick car but real hairy to drive.

My mom wanted a Gremlin for her first car. My grandpa said ohh hell no and went out and bought her a red '65 Mustang Convertable. Guess it wasn't hard to find them in mint condition in the early 70's. :)

Do you mean the Subaru WRX motor that puts out close to 300 factory horses,
Wow Subaru Dependability in a seventies Ford, Puts both my favorite Car Companies together My MY first Car was a '75 Maverick, My first NEW car was an '82 Subaru Hatchback both, are still my top 2 favorite cars I've owned, I was stupid and went for something Sportier looking and Traded the Subaru for an '83 Plymouth Turismo (Horizon TC3) Took that piece of crap home (was demo car with 1000 miles on it), had a cracked cylinder head, and after 3000 miles the clutch went out, Mopar... I've owned over 20 cars in my lifetime, 4 Chrysler Products, All crap, replaced valve cover gaskets, Alternators, Starters, and had trannys go out with less that 80k them.. I'll Never own another Mocrap, ever. Sorry got on a rant, No offence to closet Mopar guys, I just hate 'em.
