I don't have those tires on the car right now, but I know it was plenty adequate. Probably 3/4" or so but don't hold me to that. With the 4 1/4"BS on the cragars and 275/60r15s, it was very very close and actually showed signs of a bit of rubbing against the spring.

thanks ray are the same 275/60r15s just 28" tall from what i can tell so the 275-50x15 would have fit the 4 1/4 bs rims just close to the spring ??

You can get extra wide steel wheels for Chryslers which have the same bolt pattern as the Ford. I saw them at Chryslers at Carlisle.

Summit carries oem style Ford rims in various custom widths and such.
They not only have the correct bolt pattern, but they are also set up to use poverty caps and trim rings if you so choose.

The 50's might have a tougher time thatn the 60's fitting on the 4 1/4 BS. generally a shorter tire on the same wheel will (to a point, would be nit pickers) present a bit wider cross section.
Have a close look at the pictures I posted. The 60's didn't come out beyond the wheel as far as the 50's.

MaverickGrabber I was wondering if you have gotten your new wheels in yet & put them on your car? I am looking at new wheels & want to see how yours turned out.
    Thanks, Mike:)

I don't know how people are getting these tires to "fit". A 245 with a 4-1/4 backspace rubs the inside (frame rail) and almost touches the leafspring with my stock rearend (I want to get a slightly wider rearend for it --Granada). How in the world is a 275 gonna fit??...

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
good info but that thread is talking about 4, 3-1/3 and 3-1/2 inch backspacings not 4-1/4 as TL is refering too

anyhow i don't think anyone is disputing that a 275 won't fit we all know it does... i say it once i'll say it again.... it's a matter people asking if going beyond a 4 inch backspace with that size tire with that same series with a stock rearend! end of story :D

oh yeah don't forget you can stick a 315 under a maverick too you just need to tub it, roll the fenders, narrow the rearend b;ah blah blah.... yes i'm mocking!

for the last and probably again for 10 million more times... just go with a 3-1/2 to a 4 inch backspace and you will be fine! :D if not do what you want you'll find out... ;)

ok i'm ready for the.. "But I have 275 with a....... all i have to say is :bananaman

Mine were 275/60r15 on Cragars with 4 1/4 BS.
    They "fit".

Maybe it would've caused a problem eventually.
After all I only drove it this way for a couple of years.

I have 275/60/15 on a 15x8 with a 4 inch BS. I don't think a 4 1/4 BS would work on MY car. I think that a few of these cars are different for some reason.......(may get clobbered for that one) :D But anyway, I can't help other than to say that my setup works PERFECT for MY car. I don't know about anybody else's car. Mine is a 72. The whole rear axle came out of a '72 Sprint. I do have a half inch or so on each side of the tire (between the tire and the spring, and between the tire and the fender.) I did NOT roll the fender lip. Maybe I'd have a little more clearance (enough for a 4 1/2 BS) if I rolled the lip. I dunno. Anyway, this may not help at all, and probably doesn't, but it might! Good luck Dave!! Let us know how it comes out please!! (Just in case you weren't planning to already) :D Preston
