We had the same trouble with the manifolds 'grabbing' the towers and binding. When it comes to clutch linkage, I tried to use manifolds in mine, and they fit. However, I fit and tested everything before trying to put the head pipes on the manifolds. The head pipes absolutely would not go in and allow the linkage to function. Hydraulic clutch would be the answer IMO. I ended up using Tubular Automotive headers. Big tubes, at least the 4v set I used. They are kinda like spaghetti though. 8 separate tubes that bolt up one at a time (makes install easy), and 2 pipes criss-cross below engine. Then the collectors slip on with retainer bolts. They did NOT work with my steel bellhousing. I had to trim it. Tubular makes 2v sets as well, don't know the tube size. Also: My swap would have been better on a couple points. Things I would do today if I did the swap again... Shaved towers No Moroso valve covers (Something closer to Boss 351 covers.) Aluminum intake More radical innards Some things that worked very well: Moroso deep pan Stock 302 Duraspark box combined with a 400m distributor Fan, spacer, and shroud lined up perfect as with 302, but I would go electric fan if I did it again. Clutch linkage Throttle cable and bracket Dave
Finaly got some pics to go. here are some of my shock tower mods... complete with my crappy looking welds. How did your headers work with motor mounts? did you have to change mounts or did the stock one's work?
One other thing: what kinda springs work best under the cleveland? I pulled the springs out of my 4dr parts car and replaced them with the 2dr's springs... and it was so low I had a hard time getting the jack out from under it. Will the 4dr 200 springs work ok under the 2 dr with 351c? Also: should i swap the leaf's also?
Well I sent the 351c block to the shop for prep, a .030 overbore, new cam bearings and freeze plugs. I did some horse trading for a set of 70 model 4 barrel closed chamber quinch heads to replace the 72 open chamber heads. Goin with 9 to 1 flat tops. It has a offy 360 degree dual plane intake on it now with a 750 dual line holley. Lookin for another intake that might be better. Thought about a gear drive for timing but may just go with a double row chain and gears.Cam selection is still up in the air right now. I want it to be very streetable since its a daily driver but a little lope couldn't hurt, lol....
There is a set of Tubular Automotive headers on eBay. They are up to 150 bux. They are either for 351c 4v in Mav, or Boss 302 in Mav. Can't quite tell from the pics. Dave http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4591308570&fromMakeTrack=true
This thread has answered so many questions. Can some one let me know if Tubular Automotive header have a web site as they would be spot on for my 387 Cleverland swap. Dave when you come over i will see if i can get you a ride in a couple of GT from over here, as well as some other stuff. Aussie John.
Edelbrock Torker intake. Period. Nothing better for street/strip. Stick with the chain for the timing. Camshaft: Call Crane cams and have them grind this for you: Hydraulic lifter camshaft Intake lift: .524" Exhaust lift: .554" lift Intake duration @ .050": 224 Exhaust duration @ .050" lift: 232 108 degree lobe sep. angle It's a great street/strip grind. I've used it for ages and have never been disappointed. If Crane gives you any hassles then let me know and I'll have it ground for you.
I dunno about that. Pete Jackson makes a real purty noise in there. I can't bring myself to install a radio when I run a gear drive. Dave
If you want it to whine.....get a blower. Seriously, the chain will stretch at high rpm and retard the cam timing (slightly) so you will get a bit more upper rpm power.
