Thanks Gene, I think so too. Jeff, I used Rustoleum semi gloss black. They didnt have satin, which I would have rather had. Im not fond of shiny black.
Spent the day prepping, taping , sealing and painting the engine bay. It didnt start well but a good friend schooled me on what I was doing wrong. Unfortunately, by the time I got ready to spray the color again it was a little too late. It got thick sitting all day and I wasnt sure if it was cool to add more reducer. I would have tossed it and mixed up more but it was all I had.It looks good until the light hits it just right. Mostly orange peel, but it will have to do. I would give it 6 out 10. At least I learned what not to do fornext time. I will post pics once I have it unmasked.
Since Ive been in the garage the last 12 hours, I decided to spend the evening with the Wife. She got a phone call from an old friend and seems like she will be a while. I took that as a sign to sneak back out to the garage and start unmasking. Here is what I have so far. Tried to get a picture of the "texture" and it hit me, texture, that's what I have. Kind of like it would look if I had covered over an undercoating. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. A textured engine bay. This one looks worse than most of the bay, but you get the idea. Kind of sick to my stomach.
That's called "hammertone". That is expensive stuff in a spray can. You just saved yourself some money!!
My OCD is killing me, I can't leave it like that. Its making me physically sick to my stomach. Im going to reprime and wet sand it back smooth, buy more paint and do it again. Just typing this has made me feel a lot better. Should have it done by next Saturday.
Looks like Hammertone to me, also. Im thinkin u did'nt want that type paint or not satisfied w/ the way it was applied?
The greats always tend to hold themselves to a higher standard and in principle, personally, can be a really good ally. Perfectionism can be a curse or a blessing depending on how well things go! I’ve not been partial to hammertone in most cases, except for maybe roll gages. Have you had a chance to conduct a postmortem?
Looks good Don, but I know what you mean about living with your mistakes. Everybody that has seen my car says it looks good, I say are you blind just look at all the mistakes I made. I found so many things wrong with my paint job, that even I quit looking...lol... Do it again, you'll be much happier...
