If you notice, the gauge bracket holder has the angled rings mounted to it so it faces towards the driver somewhat.
I prefer the "Slammed" look rather than the "Stink bug" look. Maybe it's just a California thing?
Here's a pair of Stewart Warner water & oil pressure mechanical gauges from that era next to the stereo.
I also agree that the Stewart Warner mechanical gauges are the way to go. They also fit the era of the car for that vintage correct look.
