went with the chevy alt, but it wont line up perfectly..its off just enough that the bearing is squeeking. im useing the origional brackets form the 302..any ideas from someone who has done this????
Washers. I used a lot of washers and a bolt that was too long. I have less than a 16th of an inch of clearance and it is right on my dipstick tube but it's a good feeling to be able to turn the key and it starts and runs. I am using a GM 10SI 3 wire and it works like a charm. Big red to the battery, "B" to the ALT light wire and "A" looped to the big red. Easy.
Same here, I have spacers behind the brackets. Use a straight edge between the pulleys to check alignment.
anyone have a pic of the brackets that they are using? still havnt got this to line up and am thinking i should probably be using a diferent bracket..any picts of the converted alt and brackets on your mav would be great..thanks.
I used the factory bracket. My alternator is off of a 1978 Chevy van that had been sitting for at least 10 years. It took some shimming and some washers but it fit with very little room to spare and it works perfectly.
ok..may just need tto back off of it for a while..this car also has an electric fuel pump that is working off of a togle switch..it is under the hood on the left fender well..iu am thinking of putting it back to a mechanical pump because it has no shut off and my son may get this for his first car..any ideas or suggestions?
