Got to worry about those Cali guys, they dance to the beat of a different drum. Well at least one of them should have the cure
The center section is done! I could have had it installed today but I couldn't get the alternator fixed in time to take it to Bryant's shop. Bryant had the housing straightened, it actually was a little bent. He painted it hot pink (as requested) and I got to watch him take apart the open diff center section and build my Auburn posi. I guess the overall job is straighforward if you just play legos and bolt things into place. But . . . there is a lot of little steps that I feel like get missed unless you do this for a living. Also, the special tools that are needed make a huge difference. It looks like Bryant had a lot of these custom built. But anyway, here are the pics, it was awesome see it getting installed in person. He spent a long time cleaning the parts, pretty meticulously with some crazy smelling solvent. This is after the parts got totally cleaned up, the housing was orange but was totally black, that was kinda interesting to see. Here is Bryant cleaning the parts. I'm not sure why he has that look on his face, maybe something I said about his Maverick. You can't see it but he has specific sized taps that he uses to hammer those things into place and he actually spent some time deburring and cleaning specific surfaces in order to make sure everything seats properly. That's the things that I could see someone skimping out on and having problems later. Here is the bearing hammered in. The retainer sits on top of it but I don't have a pic of that. This part was interesting. He was trying to make sure he had just the right amount of preload and he had this fancy little tool to make those adjustments. He was pretty close eyeballing it but still went back to dial it in. Bryant mentioned that this part is important to really get everything to work properly and to make the diff last longer and not excess noise. He painted this stuff on and spun the diff trying to see how well the teeth lined up by looking at the wear. Here is the result after spinning it and he said since the parts were good quality everything turned out well without needing adjustment. No pink available so he went with black
Bryant said I will have a better take off with pink. He said it'll make my 3.25 gears pretty much a 3.69. He also mentioned it will make my rear end smoother and if I decide to really give it a good pounding out there on the tracks on a friday night, it'll go the distance. Those were his exact words
