Anyone ever use the z-bar from a 64 thru 68 mustang in a maverick? A ford man told me "It should work".

John I have heard they dont work. But, do not have first hand experience trying.. I have spied them and thought they would need modifying at least. Dan

Take it from someone who has been there and done that ! It won't work. The right one is bad enough never mind a modified wrong part.
The next time I take mine out I'm selling it and putting in a cable conversion.

As mentioned in other posts, I used '66 Mustang linkage. The only things I had to tweak were the rod through the firewall (added 3/4") and the lower arm of the z-bar had to be bent outward to clear the headers and Lakewood bellhousing.

Thats what I want to hear. I know a guy that has old stang64-68
with 289 top loader. In the spring he is going to roll it over and pull that stuff out for me.He said that is the only good stuff on the car. His son has 4-wheel drive maverick with 302 top loader
I'll pick that one up also he said its for sale.

BTW, my maverick was originally a 6 cylinder so it had the small frame and engine pivot bushings which just happen to be what the V8 Mustangs used. If his bushings, or any of the linkage parts aren't any good you can get just about any piece you need at C J Pony Parts in Harrisburg. That's about a 20 minute trip for you. 69maverick is right about the Mav z-bar being a PITA. It's larger and in two pieces that bolt together in the middle, takes larger bushings, too. I had one, didn't like it so I put in the Mustang parts. That was 31 years ago, been working ever since. Also, the linkages are different for different year Mustangs. I can only vouch for '66's.
