i have a 302 roller with hooker 6901's, 40 series flowmasters. would an x pipe (or h pipe) be worth the money as far as performance goes? is sound affected much?
X pipe for sure .. I've ran both and I've converted to X-PIPE on six cars and they perform well and sound great .. I believe there's a HP gain also. NASCAR runs them on their cars now and has for years. They must know something .ha. Cometized
x pipes do change the sound. your susposed to find the point of reversion (i think that is what its called). thats there the exhast coming out of the headers slows down in the pipes. the method ive used is you take some regular sparay paint (not high temp) or some wax of some sort. put a line down the lenght of pipe coming off the header. now you do a couple of full throttle passes. then check where the paint or wax is most burnt off. thats the point of reversion and thats where you need put the h pipe or the crossover of the x pipe.
i have the h pipe on mine.also i talked to a guy from flowmaster and he told me the h pipe was better as far as performance.x pipe is a nascar thing and everyone had to do it. h pipe will balance your exhaust.
i seen on a horsepower show they stated that a X pipe will give them 3 to 5 hp but the h pipe is easy to do your self
My 1972 Gran Torino came stock with an H pipe. It was one big H pipe from the 2 exhaust manifolds back to the 2 mufflers. I still have a replacement one in the garage that I never mounted on the car before I got rid of it. It stands about 5 feet tall.
Cheap spray paint works better...the cheaper the better. The sweet spot is where the paint blisters worst. Be sure to check for the idea spot at the end of the track...Do not drive back to the pits or you will need to do it again. Use a crayon for a wax substitute.
X pipes sound soo much better than H pipes.I hang around with a bunch of 5.0 Mustang guys and the difference is really noticeable.Heres one of my favorite small block Xpipe sounds. [nomedia]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3NL4CZfJ3Y[/nomedia]
H pipe or X pipe ?? Hi Homermav: At higher RPMs the exhaust flow is moving "past" the H-pipe so rapidly that it will not effectivily cross over to the other side .. The exhaust would have to make TWO SHARP 90 degree bends with an "H" pipe. On the other hand the " X-PIPE routes the exhaust outwards much more smoothly and without restrictions. The result is the X-Pipe is more condusive to horsepower gains and performance aspects. The "H" pipe design is a late 60's design and a lot of information has been developed since then and is now applied to modern exhaust systems. Cometized
I was wondeering the same thing, which is better straight or x pipe causeim bout to get my exhaust doneand I got a x pipe in my backyardi can usebut a lil worried if it won't sound good or ill just sound like a mustang.:/
there are so many variables at to how your exhast will sound. new modern cars like the mustangs, camaros, and trucks all sound the same because their combination of parts are essentaly the same. your compression ratio, your cam, your intake manifold all have an effect on what the exhast will sound like. so if your trying to get your car to sound like someone elses car then you need to cloan there combo, otherwise you will just have to try different things.
ok that sound reasonable i wonder why the guy from flowmaster was trying so hard to talk me out of the x pipe didnt really matter to me i would have bought either one just wanted the best one maybe i will try the x on my next exhaust build.
