WOW... maybe i just got lucky

called a guy who had a 76 tbird and a 77 pinto parting out.. looking for a rear end with gears.. i found a guy that he knows that knows a guy that has a mav for sale for $500.... no rust... I6 runs great... might have ac and power steering..

gotta call the guy later and go look at it... WOOHOO.. i am so excited... a rust free car would be the answer for me..

ok... its a 75-76 comet... big bumper....has 5 lugs all around.. front disks.... 250 I6...

havent seen it yet,.. but i hear it was grannies car... and she passed away 1 year ago... and the guy wants 900 for it...

im gonna take a look.. and hopefully talk him down a bit... but they swear its rust free... and even the cowl is complete

im excited.. but yeah... no money no car... so i will not get too excited yet..

 

That sounds like how I got my car...My wife's greatgrandmother drove it since 73, she was put into a nursing home about 10 years before she died, 3 summers ago. It spent all that time in a garage keeping dry. About a year after she passed away, I took a look at it and made off with it for $600. Had to tow it home, since the carb was gunked up. But had it running and inspected the end of the next day.

What I am basically saying is, keep a positive attitude, you just might score a decent ride with deals like this.

 

The funny thing about 'friend of a friend' cars is that when you hear about them, the condition is better, never any rust, and the price is about half what he really wants.

This still sounds very reasonable though.
No rust and disc brakes on a running car is worth a lot to some folks.
The no rust part is worth a fortune to me, I just don't want to deal with it. Some people can, not me.

Remember, when you talk to the guy that has the title, and you have cash, start the price at 500 and see what happens. Tell him that is what brought you to him.
Try your very hardest to not pay 900. You always need a little some kinda deal to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Btw: Did that Pinto have 3.40 or 3.55 gears?
Or, was it a 7.5" rear?

If you don't know, then you have problems and need to get some help.

Whenever you "found a guy that he knows that knows a guy that has a mav for sale" Of course you have gotten lucky and it turns out good and cheap. Everyone knows this. Don't we.

 

I know lots of guys around here that know where a Boss 302 Mav is, CHEAP, no rust, needs a paint job, runs great.

Get there, its always a Nova with 8 inch holes rusted behind all four tires and ran great last time they started it... back in 77.

rear ends were gone... that was the first thing i asked... and they were both 3.08 gears
i have 289... so not much more...

Hope you get there and the wife is nudging the guy for Christmas money. Got my '57 F100 that way, she didn't help him a bit. I think "mostly rust free" is about as good as it gets. If it seems better than that you just haven't looked hard enough. Unless it spent it's whole life in a garage and has 10,000 miles and the guy was anal about driving in the rain. And then it's not $900. But "mostly" can be pretty nice.
