I remember that ad well. I sent him a message to tell him he had a valve keeper falling out in the pics. He thanked me and removed the one pic. If you look closely though you can still see it in the last 2 pics in the ad. Thats enough to scare me off.

Anyone have ideas for the best head for $500-ish? I need to act fast since this is my daily driver and such, but I also want to get a great head. I was looking at GT40's with rollers, but there aren't any on ebay right now...

What are you planning on doing with the engine? The 76 is a rather low compression, high IM engine.
Knowing this there is a really good probability you will have some nicely dished 8:1 compression pistons so putting some performance heads on that configuration without changing your pistons out will gain you somewhat of a boost but probably wont gain you the power you are hoping for.

You would be better off building a different engine if you maintain a time constraint like I do and swapping it out when you get it completed. The older blocks are easy enough to find around here but the roller blocks are a dime a dozen and you can get them for cheap if you want to go that route.

Really? I was under the impression that better flowing heads helped every engine...

I'm not sure, but I think my car had extremely high compression. Just seems like if I lift the accelerator the compression slows the car a ton. Maybe they are flat poisons?

Maybe you are right. I should just keep this engine for my driver, and then later I can soup one up for more strip use...

If your engine is a somewhat stock engine they came with about a 8:1 compression ration due to the emission controlls that year. I know you havent had the car that long so unfortunitely you probably dont know exactly what was put in that block if anything.
But yes you are correct that the better flowing heads should give you a performance increase with all engines, but with horrible compression pistons they wont give you anywhere near as good of performance as you would get with a better bottom end.

Oh and any thoughts on doing the meet on the 22nd? sounds like Bartikus is up for it. Dont know about John yet.

Good to know. Well I guess I might wait to build up another engine when I can afford to have two...thanks.

Is the engine the stock one that came with the car, or a later model engine, with roller lifters?
