Ive got a 347 in a 72 Mav. w/ the SC-Hooker 6208 headers. I bought Summits mini starter but even though it will rotate for clearance it will not clear either the headers, steering or block. Its just too tall. I dont want to bend the headers or lower the steering or start buying a bunch of starters. Surely someone knows the right combination? Eric
I used the '91-94 Mustang starter (smaller than previous years). I had to grind some of the bell-housing down to get it to fit. That seems to be one more price to pay for 1-3/4 primaries.
Thanks Rick. From what Ive read on this site they fit pretty good with an automatic useing the spacer plates. But I guess I may be the first to try them with a stick and its been somewhat of a challenge. Even with the spacer plates they do not clear the scattershield. I had to grind the scattershield in three different areas and also the z-bar for the clutch linkage would not work due to the header tubes being in the way. I had to go with a clutch cable which ment I had to go with a cable type clutch assembly and bellhousing. Anyway were past all that and now my new mini starter dont fit. Other than that I just need to put in the radiator, hoses, fluids and stab the distributer and its ready to fire. Thanks again Eric
My Mcleod gear reduction mini-starter would not work either. I had to use one of the Ford Motorsport mini starters.
