I'm restoring a 71 Mercury Comet for my brother. Where do I send the A/C Evaporator for rebuilding? I contacted Classic Auto Air and they do it, but need 4 weeks to get it done. I'm looking for someone that can do it faster. Any recommendations? Thanks Danford1
Just buy a new one. How much is it for them to rebuild it?? Do you know it's leaking? There isn't much you can do to rebuild them, it's not like they sweat them apart, and re solder them. Seems like a waste of money to rebuild one, if it's porous it's junk. I do commercial refrigeration and air conditioning, if a coils bad..we replace it.
Answers I asked about a new one, they are $300. It is $100 to clean, straighten the fins, pressure check and inspect it. The A/c system on this car was unhooked for many years. No doubt there is dirt in it. I know a speck of dirt in an A/C system can plug the expansion valve. Every other item of the A/C system will be new. We just aren't going to hook up a possible dirty evaporator to a "new" system. $100 extra for peace of mind is worth it here. We just can't wait 4 weeks to have the Evap checked out. Soooooo the search goes on for a faster shop. Cheers. Danford1
Tell me about your shop Please tell me about your shop. Are you a licensed A/C and radiator remanufacturing center? Where are you located? What is the business name? Thanks! Danford1
