Anyone got any good ideas to get the outer wheel bearing off? It started makeing a little noise yesterday so I figgured no problem, I will just pull it off real quick and grease it. Well, I been out in the 25-30 mph winds in this 33 degree weather since 5 A.M. trying to get the damn hub off but the outer wheel bearing has basically welded itself to the axel somehow. All the grease is burnt. Not sure what happend. Will heating it up with a blow torch help? I should be leaving for Terry's right now...

Way to go, Jamie! The BFH method never fails......in varying degrees. See you in a bit at John's place, to work on Terry's car.

It had plenty of grease and was tightened just like I have always tightened them. Someone has taken a grinder to the end of the axel. Looks like the disc brake swap may be comeing sooner then I was planning...

Nice meeting you today Frank. 'bout time :)

    (y) Glad you got it off Jamie....a BFH and a "BLUE-TIP"wrench will do it every time....Check your spindle real close,it may need machining...(y)

Wayne; figured you would be working, or I would have called you. I went to the Summit job fair, and they said they were only hiring counter help and warehouse jobs, so they took my resume' to review and see if they could fit me in anywhere. I guess I'll hear from them at a later date. I'll be going to John's house tomorrow to work on Terry's car, and I think he will be there too. If you can come, call or pm me and we can set it up.

I'll probably be down there again tomarrow also if I can get this wheel bearing worked out today. Didn't think I was going to make it home last night. Screwed up wheel bearings do not sound good...

I'll post a pic of the axel in a little bit.

Yes please post a picture Jamie. I would at a minium take some emery cloth and smooth it. If it is too bad you might have to replace the spindle.

Yea, I think it's going to have to be replaced. I'm going up to NC tonight to pull the spindle off my '74. Can't understand why the heck someone would grind on the axel.

And yes, I know there is a bolt missing from my backing plate. Already started takeing it apart.

May not be the first time this has happened on that spindle.

I agree, this isnt the first time the bearing has been stuck. Never use power tools to clean machined surfaces.
