I'm seeing there is a difference in a normal 2 barrel carb 302 and the high performance 302 that came on some cars.
I'm talking about the 302 with 4 barrel carb. holley 1850, performer intake and cobra covers, double pipes out the back.
Are there more differences inside the engine as diff cam and heads?
was this a factory install? or a package that people installed?

Only factory 4V 302 was 1968(its first year) None appeared again till the advent of the fox mustang in 79 or 80? All others were 2V. H.O. versions had a hotter cam, higher compression due to pistons or head chamber volumes. The later 302s' got bigger valves to aid breathing and better heads (in general)as the technology got better.AS far as Mavericks/Comets are concerned...no high performance V-8 was offered(cant compete with the mustang you know)The dress up stuff is just that,Dress up.No mav/comet ever came from the factory with a holly 4V carb on it.Thats all aftermarket hop ups stuff. This help at all???

Ford never built a production performance 302(except Boss). Only thing close to it is the fuel injected roller motors. The only factory 4barrel on the early engines was in the 68 model year and it was a minor upgrade in power. Had a factory cast iron 4v intake and the heads were a smaller combustion chamber but same valves and ports. I think it was rated at 230hp if memory serves. They did produce some smogger 4v engines prior to the injected motors but they really arent worth mentioning. They even did a TBI 302 in the 85 Mustang and it was terrible.
Of course the 302 Boss engines are another story.
The add ons you listed are all aftermarket installs.

Guys ... is it possible a BC dealer added this stuff on as a package? ... maybe they had lesser smog control at the time across the border

Sometimes you just have to wonder what these cars have seen over the years?? When I look at mine its hard to wrap my head around the idea that its only 3 years younger than me to the month. Its really amazing that it survived this long and stayed in the shape it was in when I got it with original paint and dealer sticker. I wonder what todays cars will look like in 37 years?? I'm guessing a big ball of green corroded wires and rotten circuit boards that cant be repaired cause the parts are NLS. And they call my Mav a lemon. HA!!

One of the things that throws me off is the emblems reading high performance 302 on the air filter. If i were to hop up my engine, i don't think i would add it. It's a little weird that it would be available. It looks like a manufucturer sticker. It doesn't say ford either, so i guess it was some sort of kit to make your 302 into a high performance 302.

i just have it because it makes it look cool:D i remember going to car shows and seeing mustangs with 289 high performance or 302 high performance and i thought it made the car actually seem powerful (well they looked powerful) having cobra valve covers just adds to it!!! and seeing the big 502 and 572 valve covers just made my face drop
