So I had my Comet into a couple shops, as I don't have the time or, frankly the space right now to work on it. The first shop broke my fan shroud, and the second shop very nearly destroyed my grill. I paid them a lot of my hard earned money and never got so much as a "Sorry". So what would you guys do in my position?

I'm not kind to unkind people when they break my sh*! and don't accept responsibility. I would have parked my butt at the service counter till someone, including the manager, agreed to pay for the parts AT LEAST. I been threatened with calling the cops on me before. They don't want to pay for that too. They intemidate with it. I just told them the judge will decide sooner than later. Never become hostile or use foul language. Just stand your ground.. and leave the hoodie at home

Before you take your car into any shop, you should document the condition of the car............just like a new car dealer does when you take your car into their shop..............and rental car agencies do(if you can't make one up then go to a Ford dealer and ask for one)...............and have them sign along with you.............if they won't sign I'd take it somewhere else.
In your case I would have looked at the car before you signed off and either had them take money off your bill or given you the cost of the part they broke. It's a little hard doing this after the fact though.........
I would be very interested in what shops did this to you and what work did you have done?
I lived in Oregon most of my life before moving down to California.

Unfortunately, I didn't notice the damage till it was off the trailer. The two shops for anyone considering them in the future are Karolina Customs in Portland, OR and, Duyck's Garage in North Plains, OR. It sucks that this is probably going to be a very expensive lesson.

my dad always said, "screw unto others, as they screw unto you". No shop wants a black eye. Get the car out to the local car shows and what not, and let the public, and everyone who will listen, know what happend. Yes, you should set to Claims court. Keep your cool and be smart.

Just checked them both out on the web and they both are long standing businesses with good reviews, bummer that it had to happen and sure makes you reluctant to take car anywhere to have work done :(

Both parts that are broken are prone to damage, I know I am very careful around my grill as you tend to lean on it when working in engine compartment

Well, have never heard of either of those shops, but I've been gone for over 12 years.
Not sure what kind of work you had done, if you spent a sizeable amount of money I'd call them up and complain, and actually go done and speak with the owner. If it has been weeks since this happened, well............I
    would do anyway.
Next time you need to have something done to your car send me an email and let me know what you want to get done............I've still got a lot of friends in and around Portland, know the owners of the Baxter's stores, John, Skip and Lyle..........plus lots of owners or good shops that do good work and stand behind their work.............or mistakes.
    Let me know.

At the vry least, I wud file a complaint w/ the states atty. consumer complaint division, after I discussed it w/ the shops. The grills are real fragile, for any serious work they shud have removed it - I do.

Very true. I cant count how many times Ive leaned on my grill by mistake. My grill is mounted with plastic push pin retainers. If I happen to lean on it, it pops off the push pins instead of breaking as it would with the factory screws.
