I am talking back and forth to a guy about a motor and trans. The motor is in North Georgia and waiting for him to bring it back here before making deal, but he is tight for money and doesnt want to go and get it if there isnt a good chance we can deal, so do you think this is a decent deal provided everything is as stated and what trans is this, he sent pic of shifter. also 4" Hi Rise is included in the deal. Email from buyer...well it came out of a 1982 mercury cougur the motor is a 302, 2 bbl, switched it from a 4 bbl, i still have the 4' high rise intake. As far as i know the motor has been board 30 over, there might be a few more things that he done in the motor. Its got crome valve covers, stock manifold and i know that when it had the 4bbl on it,it would spin around in 3 gear, its in excellant condition. The transmission is a 4 speed, reverse is where 1st gear is suppost to be in a regular straight shift transmission when you go to put it in reverse you have to push down on shifter and pull it to you and its in excellent condition. we cant let it go for less then $450 because we gave $600 for it and i fixed it up a little here and there. Ill go take pictures when i can, maybe next weekend. we just want to make sure you wanted it before hand.
Is that good or bad, and not sure if trans is stock to the car, would that be the correct shift pattern?
SROD is a 3 speed trans with an overdrive. First and second gear are close but when you go to third the rpm drops dramatically...so not really good for performance. The early 302's were on rated at 157hp for the GT..so I don't think it was designed for much power...depends on what you plan to do with it really...
It's an SROD 3+1 OD 4 speed. I could use the transmission for my V8 Ranger if you don't want it. 1st gear is 3.07, 2nd is 1.72, 3rd is 1 to 1, 4th is .70
