Last week I replaced the front parking brake cable. A simple repair…2 bolts and 2 nuts is all that is needed to drop the mechanism from the dash and firewall to remove the cable. It was the hair pin clip under the steering column that made me think up some new cuss words. I bet I messed with this clip for an hour before I was able to get it out. Never did get it back in…gonna wait till I pull the engine or steering column.

I will be replacing my wiper motor soon so I asked Jamie at the Stampede if this would be a difficult task. I think he said “Good Luck” but it was hard to understand him because he was laughing too hard.

This got me wondering…what was the hardest part you had to remove on your Mav/Comet?

Wiper motor for us. I think the rear parking brake cable will be difficult though.

Wow, I was trying to get that parking brake cable clip off the other day...and I was trying to think...what the worst thing to remove was....plus this is on a stripped car!!

That brake cable clip is REAL tough to pull on a car with a motor in it.....especially a V-8 car. But.....the wiper motor would be the hardest thing in my opinion.

Having not done a parking brake clip nor wiper motor ... I vote for the brake light switch on a car with a clutch pedal.

If I ever had to do that again, I would think about removing the pedal first now...

I had three of those fail in my white Comet (stick shift) in 6 years ... only have done one in my current one (automatic, of course ...) in 18 years ...

The top nut on the exhaust manifold-to-flange studs, passenger side. Man I almost rented a cargo plane to haul my car to a canyon and drop it in. It was that bad.

The wiper motor...I don't want to talk about it.

Wiper motor, and right after that the AC evaporator is next in line for pita jobs on a mav/comet (unless you have one with a 351 in it) Thats a whole nother world of colorful euphemisms...

Fine, I'll talk. I replaced it on my 77 and it took almost a week. There is a metal THING behind everything in the dashboard. It has lots of bolts that you can't reach plus my car had a LOT of ductwork and stuff in the way plus a speaker and a radio that were in my way. The steering column had to be moved...holy crap.
    At least it wasn't greasy...

I can take out my radiator in seconds...but NEVER try to remove the waterpump unless the radiator is out...blood. Tiny slits and blood.

I once replaced my water pump on the side of an interstate, in the dark, using my cell phone for light. I invented some new combination's of foul words during that ordeal. Always had a nice little breeze from the semi trucks whizzing by at 70 mph a few feet away.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
How about the hardest part to put back on?:D

the speedo cable was a PITA for me, but then i found out if you remove the AC duct work it goes in very easy.

i dunno about comets or mavs but with newer cars if your wiper motor goes out your better off going to a junk yard and pulling an entire new rain tray assembly and hoping it has a good wiper motor.
