I had to share. I thought my mav easily weighed 3000lbs, especially after the disc swap and it having a 302 in a 6 body. Well I am very proud to say that with a full tank of gas and me in the car the mav weighs only 2880 lbs! Yeah buddy! Just wondering how much everyone elses' weighs? I know somebody else posted this before but we have some newbies so lets give it a go again.

Hey Jerilyn, where did you get yours weighed? My Sprint was 3010 on a certified CAT scale with a full tank of gas. Its hard to believe yours could be that light. I wish mine was. I'm running manual trans which should be lighter than an auto set up. Plus aluminum heads should help. Weight distribution was 1660 front and 1580 rear.

ours went 2660 with a 70 lb battery for weight in the trunk, full tank of fuel, and race ready. I could've sworn that it'd go 3200 lbs...guess not. Kind of disappointing in a way....that means that the 351w isn't all that powerful. Oh well.

Honestly I don't know how I got it so light. It is a six body if that helps. I weighed on a scale at a body shop around here, the scale was digital so I am guessing that it's pretty acurate. Even if it was a little inacurate under 3000lbs is still good. Thanks guys.

    Jeri,
    Does your car have A/C??...

A bench seat weighs quite a bit more than the buckets.

Steel wheels weigh quite a bit more than aluminum.

Was the spare tire in the trunk?

    Power steering or manual?

The Grabber hood actually weighs a little bit less than the standard hood.

The little things add up in weight...

the 69.5 to 71 were the lightest. The frame railing(unibody) was made of lighter steel. In 71 when they added the bigger 250ci and j302 ci they beefed it up according to some literarture I have read.

Mine used to weigh 2870 when it had the big bumpers. This was many years ago at a racetrack. Dunno what it weighs now.

I don't know how mine is so light either. The aluminum heads help of course, as well as the aluminum water pump, mini-starter, on and on. Other than that, just normal lightening techniques that most all drag racers use. It's by far not a street car, but I have another mav to drive on the street so I don't need it to be.

    TL to answer your questions:

    NO AC

Buckets but by no means light ones, those things are a mother to move.

Alum wheels but disc on the front

NO spare in the trunk but a full tank of gas

Power steering, no help from that

    stock hood

It should be even lighter when I get the new racing seats! Yeah buddy!

    Jeri*

    also has the big bumpers

I weighed my '71 Grabber last summer at the track and it weighed 2985 with my 295/50-15 street tires and my tool box in the trunk. It is all steel and sports a 351W & a 9" rear...of course this was without any passengers. With my slicks and the tools out I would think about 100lbs less.
