There's a '72 Grabber for sale in my area. It has a 302, fiberglass front fenders, GT hood scoop, mag wheels, traction bars, 3.50 gears in the rear (seller has the original 2.73 ratio gears, that would be sold with the car), rear spoiler, 4-speed trans w/overdrive (from a Granada). It was repainted a few years ago and the floor pans were redone. Supposedly it was appraised a couple years ago at $5500 and has now been parked for quite a while.

Now for the bad stuff: it likely needs a new wiring harness, as it was apparently parked because of electrical problems (i.e. turning on the wipers would kill the engine etc.). It doesn't start right now 'cause apparently the battery's dead, so I didn't get a chance to hear it run. The paint is already looking thin on the roof and there are a few bubbles starting to come through in several areas. There's a large area on the passenger side door where the paint has started to crack and flake because someone kicked it. I'm thinking a complete repaint is required. The interior, including dash pad and door panels has been recovered in some fairly cheap-looking carpet.

He wants $2500 for it (CDN, which is about $2.50 US :)). He says he "couldn't really" go any lower than that. I'd just like to get some opinions on what some of the other individuals here would offer for a Mav in similar condition.

If bubbles are poping out then the body work was not done correctly. Probably just ground down the rust & bondoed over it. That transmission is a 3 sp with overdrive. Not a bad transmission but not a performance one. Wiring problems can be a major bear to figure out and usually its because of butcher jobs done by owners. Unless the motor is really something, I wouldnt pay more than half of what he wants. If its been sitting a long time over dirt, then alot of things can get rusty underneath. If he had a cover on it & over dirt, maks thing even worse.

Thanks for your honest assessment Dennis. It has been parked in a gravel driveway ever since the electrical problems started, which according to him originated when the stereo was stolen out of it (apparently he used to enter it in car stereo competitions). Anyway, thanks again.

Thanks Ray. I wasn't in a huge hurry to open my wallet after seeing this one, but grabbers don't come around for sale here very often so sometimes a guy can get a bit excited :). So it's nice to know that the "voice of reason" exists on this forum.

    "bubbles" are bad.

I would steer way clear, never know what else is lurking under that paint.
