If your runing a roller cam which one? Just seeing what everybody likes. BRAND LIFT DURATION For a 302.......
I've run the 94-2001 F4TE roller (trucks vans and Explorer/Mountaineer cam) with a carb, ported E7 heads and love it. Great fuel mileage & power. I've also run the B303 roller in the same combo. Again, great all around cam with a great lopey idle. Both run with 1.7 rockers. Running a Z303 with a stroker 331, Great cam for that too.
what cam you choose depends on what you want to do with the car. there are so many factors in choosing a cam that just seeing whats popular isnt the best way to go. i have the f303 cam in my 302. ive had the f303 in a 351. ive had the tfs stage 2 cam in a 306 efi motor. ive put the e cam and b cam in several efi 302s. ive put some custom grinds in different motors also. the best thing to do is to contact a cam manifacture, and have all the info you can get about your combo. like what heads, intake, displacement, compression ration, trans type, weight of the car, and they can recomend the right cam for your car
Comp Cams has software (Camquest) you can download for free and plug in information Bryant refered to, to help choose a proper cam. Obviously it only spits out Comp Cams part numbers but it's fun to play around with. If you call their tech line that's the program the phone-answerers use to help you.

I've got a B303 in my Comet.I like it,but w/an automatic,3.00 gears & no stall it's a bit lazy outta the hole.Comes on pretty good at around 2500 though.Motor's stock '86 bottom end,stock E7 heads,Weiand 8011/holley 600 up top.
i felt that the tfs stage two ended up being a little too much cam for the combo i had. it was a 306 with aproxl 9-1 compression. edelebrock performer rpm heads, gt-40 intake. it sounded just nasty!!! but i ended up with broken valve springs (didnt find them till i took the motor apart after i sold the car with out that motor). the low end torque wasnt there and im sure the valve springs killed the top end. i would recomend more compression, and a box upper intake or vic jr intake for that cam. oh and matched valve springs.
Because I already had it. And I like to try different things. It's the best cam I've ever run with a carb for a daily driver. Runs exactly like it's got EFI. I went to that thread you linked and the guy who posted the answer wasn't the most knowledgable guy to give advice. He's completely wrong about lift vs bottom end response. It's duration and overlap that kill bottom end. Lift at the valve has nothing to do with it. The duration figures for the HO cam are somewhat of a mystery, some have it listed at 276/266, some at 266/266, others at 276/276. Ford listed it as the first. The F4TE has no overlap and as such effectively raises the dynamic compression, which is good for low conpression motors. That improves the bottom end. And it's not lacking on top either. Mine pulls hard from idle to 6000. Intake is a Ford A321 (same as the old Cobra high rise dual plane & Edlbrock F4B) Heads are ported E7's, rockers are Cobra 1.7's.
A buddy of mine did a whole explorer swap in a 89 stang cam and all. Ran pretty good, id say the explorer cam probably is as good or better than a stock h.o. cam.
E cams arent to bad if you can get it cheap enough. I personaly would use a stock h.o. cam or explorer and run 1.7 rockers on it. If i just wanted cheap performance and reliability.
