What started out as exciting evening turn bad just about as fast, took the Mav out for a little trip around the block (wanted to let the all the neighbors know that I got it runnin) And it just didn't seem right so I pulled it back into the garage and put it up on stands and thats when I drew a very long face, I didn't have second gear I don't know yet what the problem might be (good thing we have a tranny guy on the board ) but lets hope it is nothing major.
That can be a let down for sure Neal. So it went from 1st to 3rd? Is that what I am reading? One thing I always tell myself when things dont go as planned with cars. If it was easy, anybody could do it. Dan Hang in there dude!
U have a C-4 Squeal? Try adjusting the modulator valve. If you pull the little line off, it should have a screw inside that you can turn with a screwdriver, which will change when the tranny shifts. After I spent a weeks pulling the tranny, rebuilding it, and putting it back in, I had the exact same thing happen to me, it wasn't shifting. So I jacked it back up and adjusted the modulator valve, sure enough, it shifted after I made the adjustment. I believe turning the screw "in" makes it shift faster, so turn it four turns in and see what happens. You can fine tune it from there, depending on where you want it to shift.
Ya what mavman said. Really, after a few rebuilds of c-4s (I didn't rebuild them, wish I was brave enough) I had to change modulators. I didn't know they had an adjustment. Anyways it does sound like it is just passing second gear up, probably no big deal, I hope
well Neal, I guess I can tell the guy that rebuilt it that he failed the class!!!! I will wait until you get it figured out to tell him so I will be able to let him know what he did wrong. Sorry.
If you're installing a C-4 in place of the old tranny for the 6 cylinder, there is a possibility that the linkage isn't quite right. But if you already had the C-4 in it before and you installed it carefully, the linkage is probably ok. Still something to check though.
Man i hate auto's ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Get the Hint Well thats my$0.02 catch ya later
you can't beat a manual, there aint nothin like changin the clutch every 6 months just cause the driver cant seem to get it through his head that even though it spinns better it doesn't mean you have to pop the clutch every time you leave the light. Hey wate a minute i'm the one that does that... ... o well i'v been driven manuals since i was 9 and ain't had to replace any of the clutches yet. Actualy i've had more problems with auto's than manuals, every jeep i've had with an auto has burned the trany up. But i have only destroyed one manual trany and that was because i got gravel in it when i got stuck at the sand pit o well my fault
sorry if i'm anoyin yall but we aint had school but 3 days in the past 2 and 1/2 weeks and i'm gettin board :bananaman :bananaman
First I might need to clear a few things, I installed a B&M shifter and I do not see that the cable is binding at any point so for now I am going to check that off the list. I also check to make sure that I am getting vaccum down to the modulator and it seems to be don't have a gage reading but I know there is vaccum there. It is comeing right of the intake. As far as the modulator addjustment I haven't messed with it just yet. Well I took it back out today, just waiting for the cops to show up I went down the road with it in first gear and got up to about 25 or so and shifter into second manually, still no shift. I can put it up into drive and feel the shift and the rpm change and go one down the road. I even took it up to 45 in first then shifted to second and still nothing. I was told that it could be nuetrualing it self out but that doesn't seem to be the case it just stays in first gear until I put it up into drive.
