I have about 200 miles on this belt, and it is eating the rear edge of the belt. I thought I may have had spacers behind the pulley (I did on my previous stock setup) which would have been just enough to cause this wear. But I pulled the pulley off today, and it is mounted flush to the waterpump.

All the other pulleys line up with the grooves on the serpentine belt. Only the water pump pulley is a little off (1/16" or so?), just enough to roll that last groove as the belt spins around, and eventually chipping most of that groove off.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Can the mating face on the water pump, where the 4 bolts go in, can that be tapped back further onto the shaft? It looks like it is just pressed on.

Water pump is new with the serpentine installation. Pulleys came with the serpentine kit. So old pulley on new pump. Not sure if that makes a difference.

you risk damaging the pump bearing if you try to drive it back. i wanna say that a belt with less ribs will work. just a matter of finding one that has the same rib size

If there is no "correct" fix, I will be cutting one rib off all the way around. Not sure if I can buy one with 6 rather than 7 grooves.

Other than this issue, it is all set up and working well.

got belt in my lap. Number is 6k705. 6 Ribs. I think 70.5 cm length, if I recall.

    Will look for 5k705.

    EDIT--YUP! AC Delco 5k705 is 5 ribs! (y)

Can you shim the other pulleys OUT to line up with the water pump pulley?

I would rather do the fix correctly, so pulling in that one pulley would be the way to do it, rather than shimming the others. Also, not sure how I would shim the one on the AC compressor.

But if no fix, then the 5 rib belt will work.

Anyone else run into this issue or know why I might be? Waterpump gasket too thick?

Well, for now, I have the 6th rib cut off and it seems to have solved my problem.

That will get me to the car show this weekend.

Is your water pump pulley pressed on like a power steering pump pulley? Is there a tapped hole in the end of the shaft? If not, ignore the rest of the post.

If yes, and there's still enough shaft to put the pulley on farther, you should be able to press it on farther with a bolt and some washers. To hold the pulley, wrap an old piece of belt around it and use a chain wrench. Don't bottom the bolt out. Typically, I think the pulley should be flush with the end of the shaft. At least, that's how I've seen pressed on power steering pulleys. But I don't see what it would hurt to press it on farther if there's room to do it.

Justin. What is ford part number on the one you have? I will pull mine off and see if it is different and we can go from there.

No threaded tip so i ignored the rest of the post (after reading it 3 times to make sure i couldnt do what it said).

As for not being on here much...it has been really hot and i sold my house putting mav in storage. Just got it out a.couple weeks ago and fixing a couple things preparing for a road trip to car show next weekend. Bought a ski boat and been enjoying being on the water during the hotter months.

    But i am back now!:dancing:

I will try to pull mine off again this week and see what my number is.

Fan2488 will bring one to the car show this weekend and we can see if his may work better. If not, I will bounce my number(s) off the one you have, Justin.

    Mine is E1ZE-8509-AA

Fan2488 said he has the same.

Does anyone else have one different?

Sounds like mine may be correct, and problem lies elsewhere.
