I wanna put a v8 engine in my 70 Maverick. Can anyone tell me what kind of engine I need, where to get it, and around how much it would cost. It'd also be great if anyone could tell me what else I can do to my car to make it faster before and after i get the new engine

Easiest v8 is a 302. Depending on how fast you want to go you can stoke it out to 347. Also depends on how much you want to spend. Just getting the power is only half the battle. You still need to get the power to the ground and also be able to stop. A good rear is also necessary. :)

Change those front drum brakes over to disc brakes :thumbs2:

    And you'll get a 5 lug bolt pattern as a bonus :)

Is there any certain brand of engine, I'm kind of ignorant but I'm learning. It'll be a while before I can afford an engine so is there anything cheaper i can do to my car now to speed it up? Also It's an automatic and when it goes into second gear it kinda stutters for a bit, any advice on that would be great too.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
also a 302 is a 5.0L, just adds to the confusing. Something you can do now to pep up the car is to swap the rear end gear. Our cars have terrible gears that are not fun.

If you're starting from scratch with the v8, you might as well go with the 351 Windsor. It requires a little more work than the 302, but many would agree that its worth the extra trouble.

Not these days. a 302 is as good as a 351 anyday, with very little work, and less headaches.

Well...................I'm not going to argue why a 351w is better, but if you haven't been a "hot rodder" or maybe this is your fist that you are going to be "really" working on I'd go with a 302. It will be cheaper and a lot less headaches to put in.................IMHO
