I totally disagree with promoting the stupidity of going that fast on a public street. I don't care what country it is in, people like this is why car people get a bad rap.

That dude has gonads of pure cast iron and a mind of straight-up Jello to be going that fast in a Maverick. Surely it has a heavily modified suspension and chassis. I don't know how fast I've gone in mine, but I've pegged the speedometer before and that was quite a nerve racking experience.

Also... Quite a lot of traffic to be doing that on a public highway, no? :naughty:

Do you mean to say that by posting the link to the video I was promoting the stupidity ? Or do you mean that the guy who posted it on u-tube was promoting it?....or maybe both? Either way your opinion is noted.

For the record... I will not drive a car fast on a busy public road if there are other people or cars around. However, I will run one through the gears on a back road where there is NO traffic.

Concerning being allowed to be posted on you tube, I guess I should have made myself more clear in my first post.

Youtube can delete alot of different things posted but yet they still allow this stuff on there.

Like our local idiot crew who posts them as "racing in mexico" when you can clearly see local land marks and street signs.

And I bet your not rowing through the gears up to 125 plus, during a "break in traffic".

    Didn't look like 165MPH to me ...

I would think those cars should be flying past quite a bit faster.

I've been 135MPH chasing a Jetta (stupid, yes, long time ago and alot more bulletproof back then) in a Maverick and when it looks like the hood is going to launch and the steering looses response... well you know...

I don't think they are wind tunnel tested at all to begin with, they're about as aerodynamic as a cracker jack box that's open on one end... just sayin':mischeif:

That's the thing that freaked me out when I ran it all out the one time I did, at about 2am on an empty interstate. Like I said I don't know exactly how fast I went because I buried the needle, but once I got above 100 the (power) steering was all over the place, and it got worse fast. Maybe with a rack and pinion it would be different, but still the rest of the car's not made to go that fast either. Drag strip is one thing but sustained over several miles? That's kinda sketchy... I backed out of it when I saw a pair of eyes reflecting my headlights at the edge of the tree line... Deer.

What I noticed was that the rear of the hood was trying to lift, hard, the hood shaking was violent and appeared that something was pushing up on the rear of the hood line. I suspect air pressure is very high at the rear of the engine compartment from air through the radiator and is forced to exit down under the car as it cannot escape up or out to the sides. Without a front spoiler of significant strength, air is diverted under the car in addition to that and wa-la, no steering. I wonder if cars with cowl hoods exhibit these issues and combined with a front chin spoiler might help as long as you don't have power steering with the loosy-goosy power valve.

...of course you still are trying to pilot a flying brick...:character0182:

There is something to that, yes. With a front spoiler you absolutely notice an improvement in high speed stability.

okay, I finally got home to watch the video. That didn't look like 165MPH to me. I maybe wrong but the traffic would have to be moving about 80-90mph to pace him when he punched it. I may be wrong...:16suspect
