Anyone know how much HP the T3 turbos on the T-Birds can support?(.63 housings I believe) is 200-300whp feasible? I got a line on a pair of rebuilt/balanced units for $300, just don't know if they will support our 400-600HP goal. Our old turbo car really surprised us, it was just a mexican 302 block with stock heads and an archaic T04B turbo that managed to run a 10.98 before we got greedy and upped the boost. Block split in half then the car was shelved. Fast forward to this year we ended up getting a 500HP 5.0 and a T5 that's supposedly good for 600-800 ft/TQ from a customer who couldn't pay his bill. Don't know if the tranny can handle that much but it was built by the same guy who did the engine and it has been nothing but stellar, currently in the shop's F100. So we have built T5, Mav needs a new engine. So I look to see what we have in the yard, first one that pops up is a SHO we were going to use in a Lotus project that never took off. Engine had a stock rebuilt, the stock plenum was removed and we added a dual setup with 62mm throttle bodies. So it's perfectly set up for twin turbos. The pistons might only handle 400whp so we will have to see about running 600whp. Already got the offroadSHO adapter plate for the T5 along with a vulcan RWD bellhousing. Test fit for that will happen tomorrow afternoon, pics will follow. As for Fuel we will be running the megasquirt setup off the old engine, with AEM pencil coil packs. Dual slim 300HP intercoolers and E85 fuel. car will most likely be tuned by Bisi who is one of the best tuners in the country. Might run regrinds on the cams if we need more air and to carry the torque. Car weighed 3250 with driver on the old setup, currently on 28x11.5" ET street slicks and a built 9" that we never got to try with the old engine. end goal is to have a fun street car that can run high 10s. Will also be a show car for the shop.
also what front suspension setup would you guys recommend? for a street mostly race setup? need to get rid of the front towers, so killing two birds with one stone.
.63 sounds kind of blah.. whats the compresser A/R and the turbine/compressor Inducer/Exducer MM size? something like twin 60-62mm would be ideal for a twin..perferably like a .81 A/R if t3 flange anything smaller I think the boost would come in too soon..which is why I said blah to the .63 exhaust turbine..sounds like it'll choke off quickely and 302s like revs and theres only really 2 kits that'll get rid of shock towers MII kit from Rod & Custom Motorsports and a c6 based front clip from AME rod and customs is about 3k for everything including brakes ( just need master cylinder and rear/double sump oil pan) AME is about 3800, and you'll need same extra plus brake kit..
Haven't had a chance to look at them/measure. I was hoping someone on here would know. I actually would have to buy them before even looking at them, but I can return them if anything is wrong with them. My parts supplier is giving me this deal as they are surplus. Rebuilt date is 02/2013 don't know if the seals would go bad by just having them sitting. Also this is NOT going on a big 302 V8 it is going on a small 182 ci V6(Taurus SHO).
Before I went with the big single I had a pair of the Thunderbird turbos. I never got to try them, but all the research I did gave me the impression that a pair of those on a 302 would be good for 600hp. This was a common junk yard setup that you would see in the late 90's on a fox body. I would give it a shot!
