    Thanks!

Thanks, I have CD version of the parts book that has that diagram and forgot about it. I've been having a problem orienting the socket so it turns off when the lid is closed. I see why, I don't have that square hole in my lid!

I have the "Mustang" version of locking gas cap that requires opening the trunk and pulling back a spring-loaded rod to turn off the cap. A light will make it easier...

I have had 5 Mavs with the trunk light and a couple with the under hood light. I just checked 4 trunklids,3 - 72s and a 75 and they alll have the hole for it. :hmmm:

DOH! Is this the hole? I might have not been looking in the right place...

It's the one on the other side, the wire for the light follows the driver side trunk hinge. If it would quit snowing, I'd go out to the garage and take a picture of the one on my 74 for you.

Craig, I have seen them in both places. Picture shows them in lower location though. Personally I think you get better light from them were you have it located.

I tried to get as close as I could, but there is way too much stuff in my garage. I took a picture of the light, and where the wire comes out.

    Just something to add.
Don't know about you guys but the ole 72 didn't have one, or an under the hood light--but the guy who had the car before me put a switch by the mounts around the gas tube and ran one up and under the back part of the trunk(under the rear window deck close to the lip of the trunk--hence gives light where you need it, in the trunk not way up on the open lid. Works well, only issue I have with his set up is the lights have to be on and I have to throw the switch--be nice if it'd just come on.
So, if it doesn't make a big difference, you might ck out how you like the lighting there before you put it up on the trunk lid.
    Have fun!

Thanks to all for your help! Since I don't have anything now, I'll try both locations and pick the one I like best.

I put mine in like Dave's (didn't have any other option) and it works just fine. Don't know how I overlooked those big rectangular mounting holes!

    Thanks All,

    Russ
