i am swapping the engine 302, transamission c-4, and rear end 9in out of a 87 ranger into my maverick. I was wondering if you guys knew of any problem i will run into in advance. It is a mild 302 with a cam and I measured the rear end it is a half inch short but I think it will work. the maverick came with a 170, 3 speed, unknown rearend.

I always like to do the body first. Take the car apart, fix it and paint it. Then when the drivetrain is done you have a nice clean car and the drivietrain does not get all yucky while the body is being done. The engine swap is pretty basic with the right parts. I would wonder about the rearend and how the spring pirches are set relative to the pinion angle needed for the mav. The fact that it is a little narrower is also a concern as the rear wheels are pretty close the the springs anyways. But this could be cured with wheel backspacing.

    70-

Weird question, but do you happen to have the word "mango" stamped on the underside of your trunklid?
That looks like the same color mine was born.

'87 Ranger? Mini-PU? If that's where you're getting your parts none of them came from the factory in it. To do the Ranger swap the oil pan had to be a rear sump pan and you will need a front sump for your Maverick. the Ranger came stock with the springs on top of the axle and the Maverick with the axle on top. All very do-ablelike 357 said and like Dan said with the right parts.

I'd do all the fabrication stuff first as to not mess up any bodywork. If you bang something into the body during fab.no problem you didn't do body work yet anyways. If you can get a
socket on that bottom rear bolt it's not a 9 inch. John

build it up and tear it down

I my opinion you are gonna need to build or "mock" the entire car up first and then pull it a part and then paint and finish everything to your liking. Just like American Choppers eh. You don't want to paint with the drivetrain in the car if possible, if your looking for a complete redo. Measure twice cut once and all that kinda stuff.:)

not one piece of the drivetrain that in in the ranger came in it off the factory floor. It is a nine inch rear, c-4, 302
