Got the engine and tranny placed. Ran into a problem. Engine would not hand-turn. Looked like the converter bolts are rubbing against the flex plate. Loosened up the tranny and the engine was able to turn. What would cause this? How do I remedy this.
What Dan said. I did the same thing. I had it seated but when I tilted the tranny it slipped. Some have learned the hard way (blown front pump) to do it right and not force it.
Well, lowered the tranny & reseated the converter. Before I raise & bolt it up, is there a way to check to see that is properly seated? There are splines in the converter "tube", should the rear shaft turn when the converter is turned?
when you put the convertor in it will click in as you turn it. turn it a little more and it will click in again. gotta move in 2x.
You really have to give it a good spin while pushing ... it should sit back like almost an inch (more or less) from the edge of the bellhousing when all the way in. When you bolt it to the flexplate it may even pull it back out slightly then you will know it's in properly.
A very easy way to tell is measure from the block face where the trans bell housing bolts up to the edge of the flexplate, then measure from the trans face to the convertor. There should be about a 1/6 to a 1/8 of a inch more distance from the trans to convertor. Also i'm unsure with small blocks and c4's but with c6 convertors there are two different crank pilot sizes and if you have the wrong convertor for the crank they will not fit together.Just something to check into.Derek.
