I've got a 1963 Comet with a bad tranny. Do you know how to ID what the heck I pulled? Since I bought it this way, I have some guesswork, but I think it's a 3-speed, it's definitely a manual and I think it's powered by a 144 (but could be a 170; can't tell that either). There isn't a VIN plate on the doorframe for info either. THanks
Im Sure Someone Here Can Help You Out, But This Forum Is Mostly 70-77 Mavericks And 71-77 Comets. But If The Tranny Has 2 Shifter Arms It's 3 Speed, And 3 Shifter Arms Means It's Usually A 4speed. And The Engine Is Prolly A 170 (most Common In Those Cars From What I Know)
The transmission should have an ID tag. A metal tag with letters and numbers that encode what it is on the inside. There should also be casting numbers on the main case. Or Does it have a bolt on side plate or top cover? does it have an integral shifter (comes out of the top of the tail housing) or one that bolts to the side? If it is external linkage how many shift levers are on the transmission? The more information you provide the more accurate we can be in telling you what it is.
