    75 Grabber....20k original miles
Hello Everyone. I Sure hope you all have your thinking caps on today. I have a 75 Mav Grabber with the original aluminum (slotted) wheels and tires. The car has 19,000 original miles and nothing has been touched on my Mav. I'm looking to buy some new tires and have made a lot of calls and also have been looking on the various websites to find out the size tires that I need. The tires that are mounted on the wheels are raised white letter Generals and are size DR-70-14 (again...I believe these to be original). I've been given estimates of tires that will fit anywhere from 185/70sr14 to 215/70sr14. One guy said that 185/60sr14 will fit nicely but I'm afraid that a 60 will throw off my speedometer. Most people I've talked to said that the 215/70sr14's are too big (probably too wide for the wheel or wheel-wells). I really like the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires but the smallest I can find is a 215/70sr14. Any ideas from you gurus? Also, a few that I've talked to have asked the width of the aluminum wheels. Anyone know that also? If I can't put the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s' on the car...what tires would you recommend? I'd like to reuse my original wheels to keep everything as stock as possible. Thanks all. Craig

I thought you would all like to see my 75 Maverick. It has just a little over 19,000 miles, is a 250-6 cyl, and has a 3 on the tree. The interior is blue and is immaculate.

Did you buy that car on ebay? I seem to recall seeing one on there like that.

As far as the tires....if you want a really original look....go with a set of Goodyear Polyglass white lettered tires. Only thing....they are bias ply....not a radial tire.

Several of us including myself are running 215/70/14's. They fit great and give the car a much better appearance.

Hi Craig, I did buy the Mav on Ebay last year and love it. Thanks for the reply but I'd like to stick with radials. Craig

Hi Maverick73. I really like the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s and actually prefer them. But the smallest size I can get is 215/70/14. I am a bit concerned with them fitting on my stock Ford aluminum wheels. I was thinking of possibly buying the BF Goodrich Radial T/A instead as I can get them in 205/70/14. Did you mount your 215/70/14 on stock Ford wheels? Thanks, Craig

D70-14's were a weird sized tire, nothing really matches up exactly. The section width on the D70-14 is 7.85, and the diameter is 25.32. If that helps any.
Your car would have had Goodyear Polyglas from the factory.
I'm also shopping for tires right now, but I might go a little wider.

Thanks for the info Dave. I can't use it now but it may come in handy later if anyone asks for a mor precise matchup. I really believe that the tires that are on there now are the originals. Everything else on the Mav is original also. The tires on the Mav now are General DR-70-14. The spare is also the same. Thanks, Craig

I would recommend the BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. Very popular tire choice.

Price is right, and very good selection of sizes. Put the white letters out, and you have a good looking tire.

No, mine are on a aftermarket set of wheels made by Cragar. They are 14"X7". From what I have heard factory wheels which are 14"X6" you can go as large as a 225/70/14 tire.

I've got 235 60's on my alum. slots they are 14x6 stock size. They give the car a more agressive look.
