Hi Fordman: Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I have a couple of these models myself...one to try out different ideas for my real Mav, and one to finish as the car turns out in the end!!!. I can't answer your question as an absolute, but it was my understanding (either from the instruction sheet write-up on the model, or from a model magazine article on pro-stock models of the past) that this was intended to be a representation of a generic Maverick pro-stock, rather than any "real" car that was ever campaigned. I have done numerous searches under "Maverick pro-stock", "Tinker's Toy" and related search phrases without ever coming up with a reference to a real Tinker's Toy. I hope that this helps. By the way, as an avid model car builder, I have a reference book listing most, if not all of the variations of Maverick models that were ever issued, so if you need that kind of info some day, give me a holler. You probably know this, but I'll mention it anyway; there were a number of famous Maverick race cars campaigned back in the early '70's, such as the Gapp & Roush cars (Express & Taxi), Fast Eddie Shartmann's car, the Illusion funny car, and, probably the most famous of them all, the Dyno Don Nickolson car. Info on most all of these is available on the internet via a Google search on the right search phrases. Good luck. John B.
