Did a Mav/Comet ever come with tilt? If not what's a good/easy replacement? I got to figuring out where my seat will be when I install a race seat. I'm only 5'6" and the wheel will be a little high. I got to have tilt. I know companies like Flaming River make generic columns but most of those have GM hardware and I can't stand the thought of GM hardware in my car. Besides I have a real good connection at my local wrecking yard.
Oh I did a search on tilt and found out that supposedly the granada tilt would work but no one knew for sure. Anyone do this swap?
when I did one, I used a column from an 85 fox body mustang, very little work and it bolted right up. I know a few others have used late 70's t-bird units and then shortened them up.
I had a Granada tilt given to me, but I have never gone to pick it up. My gut says that it should be a bolt in deal, however I could be wrong. Some guys have modded others to work, or just straight up hybrid the tilt into their Maverick columns. If you want to try and bolt one in, Granada would be the best bet. If it didn't work bolt in, then it should be an easy hybrid. Dave
When I was researching this project, I discovered that a Granada/Monarch/Versailles tilt *should* be a bolt in deal. I was never able to find one to use however. I ended up borrowing an idea from Thomas Hackmann (See this thread: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=6130 ). I got a '77 Thunderbird tilt column, took it apart, cut the outer tube on the Mav column and the T-bird column and welded the top part of the T-bird column to the lower part of the Mav column. This actually worked very well, but a Granada "drop-in" column would have been easier.
