Hi again, I was wondering what sorts of things folks have done to improve the steering on their PS cars (besides removing it). I still have the original '75 PS and I want to keep it, but it's getting kind of loose. Also, has anyone tried to re-web seat belts on their own? Is it tough? Finally, I have a mild 302 with Edelbrock 600cfm. When I floor it, it seems to be too much for my cheap electric fuel pump to handle. I was wondering what sorts of electric fuel pumps people were using on similar setups, and if I need to set up some sort of recirc (mine currently has none). Thanks! Atzy.
I dont know much about the first two questions, but the last one I can help with. Edelbrock carbs are notorious for boiling the fuel in the bowls, and when it does, it feels like it's running out of fuel when you put a load against the engine. I'd bet this is also the case with yours. Sadly, I dont know of much you can do about it, other than to just make sure that fuel lines are nowhere near anything hot or warm. Sometimes a phenolic or wood carb spacer also helps. I ran my 83 f100, 466 powered with a Edelbrock 750 for 2 years, boiling the gas whenever the temps got above 80, and nothing helped it, other than take it off and install an 830 holley. The edelbrock got great gas mileage, but fighting a hot carb got old, and I built a new engine, so the Holley was the new choice.
The power steering hydraulic components are the same as the mustang so you can buy rebuilt units or parts to rebuild them yourself. Usually you can find someone locally that can rebuilt your steering box. Most linkage parts are still available from parts stores. I had the upholstry shop that did my interior reweb my belts. He said his normal charge is between $15 to $25 a belt.
