I read on here about the improvement Ford made to the 302 in the 80's.

I have a buddy who is willing to "GIVE" me a 130k mile, Injected 302 out of a '90 Lincoln Mark VII.

It was pulled from a running Lincoln.

The tranny is smoked, but he does have the ECM (no harness)

    Thoughts ??

(I don't even own the Maverick yet !)

In case your wondering, I'm looking into a manual tranny, '70 Mav ....

The late model roller blocks are the way to go.

    FREE is a smokin' deal...

The MK VII engines are basically same as the Stang HO, roller cam, forged pistons etc...

You will need a front sump oil pan and change the timing cover if you don't want to run the serpentine belt...

You don't want a Lincoln harness as it has the ABS and air ride suspension integrated into it... The ECM will work with a '87-'93 Stang or '86-'88 T-Bird/Cougar harness... All pre '88 models are speed densety(incl all MK VII through '92) but the '89-'93 Stang is Mass Air...

    Good to know.

    225HP/300TRQ sounds good to me.

What after an aftermarket harness ??

Summit has a harness but it's $500, still that's as cheap as I've seen one for a 5.0... It's setup for mass air but it'd be easy enough to use it with a SD ECM...

    Pt no SUM-890140

The Linc ECM does have cruse integrated into it but I don't think any of those connections were used on the Stang ECM, if you're thinking modified engine, you'll want mass air anyway...

There is usually used stang harnesses on ebay...

I`d go w/ plug n play as Toms suggesting, fuel injecting will make a much better daily driver than a carbed mtr, less headaches in the long run.

Are the HO blocks stronger than the older 302s?

I keep hearing that the blocks start to split around 500 hp. Wondering if that is true, and if so, is it the same for the 5.0.

Specifically, how does my '85 model block stand?

    Internet hearsay...

I believe it's the '85 that is the lightest(thus weakest) of all 302/5.0 blocks but not even the early ones are a mountain of strength... It's the combination of power & RPM that causes them to split...

Any idea what that guy was running through that block when it split?

'98 Lincolns had the Teksid Blocks and are advertised to be the toughest. Anyone else heard differently?

But those are 4.6 four valve and won't begin to fit in a stock Maverick/Comet..

With a hit of nitrous, or some sort of compressor?
