I am new here and just thought I would post a picture of my old 71 Comet that I sold back in the 1990's.

Now that I have gotten my son thru College I am thinking of building another Comet/Maverick but a little more streetable than my last one. It was a Boss 351 with the front shock towers and control arms removed and replaced with a strut-rack n pinion style from a 71 Capri.

Anyone knows of a rust free rolling chassis 70-73 vintage let me know. I don't care if it has an 8" or 9" rear.

    Hope the pictures take.

    Steve

Welcome. Looks like that was a nice one you had. So was it a Cleveland or a Clever 351W with Cleveland heads. Either way I bet it was fun.

    351 Cleveland

I used a Cleveland with the heads off my Boss 302. Boss 351 rods, Manley 13 to 1 pistons, 9" Mark Williams spool, 5:67 gears (Mistake!), 8" convertor.

The car could fit any motor after I removed the front shock towers and steering. But I wanted to give the Cleveland a try.

I am posting a pic of the car in the initial stages where it was a Boss 302, Doug Nash Pro Shifted 4 Speed car. With an Aluminum rodded 317 stroker motor with 6:00:1 gears
wow that was a high winding small block.

The automatic was boring! Even with the 5000 stall

I am hoping to do something a little more tame this time around.

Looked like that was a pretty wicked ride! (y)
And I thought my 4.30 gears were a bit steep.

The car was originally targeted for B/SM class which allowed me to "knotch" the spring towers. Then when the class went out the window I cut the rest of the towers out and went to a motor plate, tubular front/strut suspension leaving the lower frame intact. Ed Quay did a masterful job!
