Brought the '73 Maverick, I bought from Brain Branham, home from South Carolina yesterday. The car is very solid, appears to still have the original paint, only minor surface rust and blemishes, ready to upgrade. I've driven it around today and had forgotten how much fun it is to drive a bare bones car with manual steering, no power windows, no power door locks, no digital dash, no electric seats, etc., - just plain and simple. I took it to the parts store and had to talk to three people about the car before I could get out of the parking lot. I intended to take pictures today and post them but spent so much time in the car today, I ran out of daylight. I'll try and post pics in the next day or two. I will be totally redoing my website to keep with what I've been doing.
I knew it was a solid car Terry..a great one to refurbish, have fun with it a get dem pics posted you old far...er ...geez...nevermind...I forgot
Well..... I'm going to prepare this car to be my daughter's (Sarah) first car. I'm going to take the power disc brakes, power steering, and probably the factory A/C off the '76 I recently bought and put on the '73. (The '76 has lousy sheet metal all around and in the trunk. The only good body parts are the hood, deck lid, and bumpers. Everything under the hood is great.) We will rebuild the suspension all around and put some wheels and tires on the car. We are going to put in some bucket seats and redo the interior. We may even put in power locks and windows, but that is still in the thinking stages. The daddy part of me likes the idea of a remote to lock and unlock the doors. Of course, we'll paint it. I am also considering an AOD and lower rear end gear. In Atlanta, you need to be able to pull out in ttraffic quickly. The AOD would restore some of the gas mileage the lower gear would take away. She is going to learn to turn a wrench or two as well as her sister (Savannah) that is two years younger. The younger wants an F-250 as her first vehicle - so she can pull a horse trailer. We'll have to talk about that one. Both will have to have a hand in working on their first vehicles as well as keep up the grades, chores, and their charitable services.
I heard that. I'm almost as excited about hearing how you do with your new engine as I am this new Mav. :bananaman
Terry, sounds like you have a nice find there! Glad to see it went to a good home. I think it is great that you are going to have the girls put in some wrench on their first vehicles.
