    I like all those cars.
The Gremlin with a 401 and Twin Grip is almost sinfully fun to drive.

Wow...I hate to say it but I really like the look of the Vega. Are they as rust prone as the article says? lol

soupbone-- i agree with you about the vega! they are prone to rust and the aluminum blocks were junk from day one but the one pictured is a rare yenko model. bad a$$ looking car. when restmoded they are great cars. when i went to meet my future in laws he told us we could drive his vega for our vacation car. he negelected to say that the car had not been driven in a year, had no tranny fluid, oil, or wiper blades, along with a tank full of crap gas. well, a 20 minute tune up and that car ran as good as new. i actually tried to get the car as a wedding gift but it never happened.
b.t.w.-- until recently my wife drove a 62 corvair as her classic show car. down here there is a large following for these models. the only problem we every had was a broken belt.

Sales figures do not lie. Maverick, 1st car to beat the Mustang in new car sales. Car for it's time and car for the people who appreciate it. I believe the Pinto was right behind it in sales figures also. Our cars get lumped into the nerd car category. Who cares what some chevy and mustang people say when they respond to a poll. We are in a different universe with those people. Most of us work on our cars ourselves, or at least part of it. To the minds of the send it out and write the check when it is done, we are the bottom feeders. Once again, I dont care. Whatever gets you there and makes you happy. Its a big world and opinions for everyone. I ran into a friend who has a 12 second street Gremlin yesterday at the parts store. My opening comment was " How does it feel to be driving a car one notch below a Maverick?" He laughed, and so did I. He has one of the nicest AMX's in the country. Heck, I even like the Pintos, Vegas that our cars usually get lumped into also. Face it, our cars do get the is the a Pinto? question all the time.

    Quite.
I love our cars style and the curvy body lines. I like that a V8 slips right in and that our cars can be made into true muscle with a little work and time but not too much money.

i was going to buy a '74 vega GT last summer. the owner had swapped in an iron 4cyl byt the underside of the car was sooo rusty. as i grabed up under there piles of rust and dirt just fell on the ground

i like the quote about the gremlin where they ask if the rear was cut off on the drafting table, and i think it actually was built off a hornet design with the back shortened

I can't say that I agree that any of those cars are ugly, with the exception of the Edsel and Yugo. I've seen all of them hot rodded in some way and they look really neat. As for the Corvair...it got a bad rap due to Ralph Nader and his book picking on it. Truth be told, by 1969 they had addressed everything he stated in his book and fixed it all. And to say that the bug was any better was a flat out lie. The same thing happened with the Pinto. It wasn't that much more prone to exploding than any other compact at the time. But somehow it got the bad rap. Well as a point in fact, look at how everyone jumped on the Explorers roll bandwagon, when it was actually due to underinflated tires and people that didn't know how to drive a high profile vehicle. Same thing happened with the Jeep Wrangler years before. It's all how the media wants to spin stuff. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.

Who ever wrote that has no  clue about what people like. I happen to like most of them ugly cars. Of corse they have to get modified in someway...
I noticed the title says "The worlds ugliest cars" and the reviews were full of driveability comments and other issues. Bad column for review IMO...:bs:
