i just broke my 8'' rear end at the track a 3.00-1 and i found one that is a stock 3.25-1 ratio i have a t-5 trans and was wondering how much would this make a diffrence

with the stock 3.00 ratio and 245/50/r17 rear tires my first gear was 25 then second was 40 to 45

why i an asking this is because i don't want to go there and break this rear end because the gear is not high enough :huh:

The difference in the final drive road speed will be 8% lower at the same RPM. You are not likely to notice any difference in acceleration.

I can't help you with your question but would you be willing to post some ETs? I'll have similar engine mods with a 3.00 rear. Would expect my ETs to be somewhere close to yours when its done. Thanks.

with a t5 trans, i would recomend 3.80s. that will give you good off the line perfomance and you can still cruse comforatably on the freeway.

Bryant helped me pick the best ratio for my rear end, he also built it for me actually. I have a C4 so probably not too helpful for you. I noticed a huge difference going from stock on my 8".

I love my 3.80. But I drove Rick Book's car (soon to be Yellow75's car) a couple nights ago to get it loaded on the trailer. It has a 4.11 or 4.56 or something along those lines. I tell you, it feels like an extra 50 hp when you tap the gas.

if you broke one 8" youll brake another. time to up grade. we are just starting to modify ford exploer 8.8s to be pinion centered and narrowed down to about 57"s. this is a really good way to go. i would recomend either going to the 8.8 or a 9". puting more money in the 8" will be wasted next time you blow it up. its that stage 3 clutch that broke it.

    I hope I break mine.

Just the excuse to get that 9" out of the attic and build it up.

If you need an excuse sooner than that, let me know and I'll make sure something terrible happens to your 8", like maybe the entire center section falls out while everybody's asleep and rolls away out of sight... :16suspect

i have a 8.8 1989 mustang GT rearend with 5 lug axles from a ranger, with the 3.00 gears i guess. going to install 4.10. the problem is the weak T-5, thats why i haven“t installed slicks.

I beg to differ. If he is guesstimating that his ET's are going to be around 15 seconds in the 1/4 mile then there is no way that he should have problems with a good 8 inch rear.

There are a LOT of guys on here that are running plenty of HP and have a nice 8 inch rear with posi-traction and beat the hell out of them and they don't break.

i am going to guess that whatever broke in his rear was probably weak to begin with.

With that T-5 you are going to need at least a 3.55:1 to make that car launch.

I have a basic stock 302, mild cam, 4 bbl carb and duals with a 4 speed manual and a lock right locker and the stock 2.7?:1 rear gears are a dog. I am planning on going with 3.55 gears as soon as I have the $$$ lined up and get the time to pull my center chunk.

    I am running 1,900 - 2000 RPMs at 55 in 4th gear with the 2.7?:1 gears Figuring on 2,300 @ 55 and somewhere around 2,500 @ 60-65 when I upgrade the gears.

ive seen plenty of diffs brake that were not behind a high powered motor. you rev the motor up to 4 to 5 grand and drop the clutch, the shock load is huge. something will brake. hes at a point where he has to spend some money, he should spend it on a up grade that wont brake, like a 8.8 or a 9"
