yesterday i had my gauge pod out to paint the bezel and light housing, when i reassembled it stupidity kicked in and i overtightened one of the fuel gauge posts, causing it to spin. no problem, went through my pile of parts and stole the gauge from another cluster and put it in. now the gas gauge is reading over half a tank, and i know it is close to empty(the old gauge worked right on the money) how can i go about testing/recalibrating the gauge i just installed? a resistor maybe?the gauge is working, it's just wrong. i took everything back apart this morning and cleaned and used dialectric grease on all the connections to no avail. any help appreciated, thanks Skandolis.
Could be the IVR being different and having more or less output giving the gauge a different reading. Here's a link to explain how gauges work http://www.mustangandfords.com/techarticles/interior/75259_instrument_electricity/
it does have 5 volts at the gauge, (just changed the gauge, not the regulator)i am going to assume a bad gauge, i might know someone that has another one, another question, did resistance values change at all over the years for the maverick, the gauge is from a 72 pod, i put it in a 74 pod.i do have the fuel sender that came from the same car, but i assumed the values were the same.(i actually painted the 72 pod first, then realized the different plug on the back so i pulled mine and painted it.)
The gauges used the same resistance for years. They might had changed when computers took over but I don't know that being a fact
