so I have a t5 specifically this model 1352-169 along with the bell housing that goes with it and bolting up to my 302. The previous owner has installed the pedals and has also installed a cable for the clutch. I have read a lot about doing this was but am a little confused I see people saying you have to drill something in order to us the cable but not really sure on the exact process. What all am I going to have to do to get my clutch cable to work properly? Thanks this is a 72 mav also
Your not the only one that’s confused! If you have a pedal assembly that’s modified for use with a cable and the cable’s “installed”, I’m uncertain of what you think you need to “drill”.
I read on a post that you have to drill a hole at the back of the bell housing because if the way that the linkage would push the fork instead of pull it? Sorry if that’s confusing... I have yet to get a separator plate for the motor and trans aswell as the fork, clutch, throw out E.T.C.
If you’re using the t5 bell that came with the transmission the cable should hook up and work like it did in the Mustang.
If you go with a cable there shouldn't be any modifications needed at the bell housing. I have heard of people drilling the fox body bells to install the pivot and use the push type arms our cars originally came with. Is your car a manual transmission now? If so, I would get the adapter and run the original bell so you can keep the factory inkage. It would be far easier.
So when I go to order parts can I order any fork? I’m just trying to figure out what parts I need to order all I have is the bellhousing and trans. Like would any fork work etc?
You said your transmission is “1352-169 = 1986 1-2- 1989 Mustang” you’ll need a fork for that year range.
yes let me give abit more information. so the transmission is a 1352-169 and the bellhousing code is e6zr-6394-aa. I am running a 157 tooth flywheel. I was told by the local parts store that this bellhousing was meant for a 164 tooth wheel but i can still use my 154. But what he did tell me was that i need to get a special starter that will match the difference in the flywheels. Does this sound correct
Not to me. It’s my understanding that the bellhousing, flywheel & starter need to match up. I’ve never heard of a “special starter” but I don’t get out much. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
Agreed, the bell housings I've seen that can use either 164 or 157T flywheels have a extra bolt hole that allows starter to move inward to make up difference on small flywheel.
I’ve called acouple places and they say I can run either with the bellhousing I have but not to sure if it has the double holes. Instead they were saying to get a different offset starter
A quick google search shows the bell housing is for a Fox 5.0. another search turns up those engines using a 157 tooth flywheel. Not sure what parts store you used but I would shy away from their advice, I can't see a larger flywheel fitting in a housing designed for a small one. I could be wrong, it wouldn't be a first but I would just go with what the donor car came with, Ford did it that way for a reason.
