Okay, I know there have been a bunch of posts on this stuff before...but I just wanted to verify with everybody.... okay...well you all saw the pics of the car with the motor in it, and now we put the tranny in ...nothing is hooked up...but it is physically placed in the tunnel. Keep in mind this is in a early 70 car....(don't know if that matters, but I have heard that the tunnels are a bit different.) It looks like we will be able to use the crossmember for the tranny that was in the car. but it will need to be welded on a bit made a little bit wider...(am I right, or is there a different way?).... This car was orig a 3 on the tree car, that was converted to floor shift...So I am going to utilize the maverick pedal assembly....but what do you guys recommend for a cable set up...mustangs unlim. in CT has a conversion kit, but it is like $300...ouch. there has to be a better way....reliable, and moderately priced. The big question that we have right now is the fact that in order to get the tranny up there, the motor is on a pretty good angle, tipped up....because of floor clearence. Are we missing something, or is the angle completely normal.... Another question...the tranny I got came with a pro 5.0 shifter in it....but the actual shifter handle is way to short to run, so we threw a hurst shifter at it for the time being....but I was wondering if anybody is running that shifter, and what you are using for a shifter itself..... Whew...sorry for the long post, but I am sure there are going to be many more....all of you are a great source of knowledge.....Thanks Diana
You will get an answer to all the above right here, but not from me. The 69.5 mav had a smaller tunnel. If you have the motor, tipped up as you say, do you have the correct frame mounts, and do you have the motor mounts on correctly? Dan
Whatever you do get alot of pics. I been thinking about going with a T5 and I would look to "see" what is involved with the cross member and all that.
I have the 2 piece motor mounts for v8...as far as I know they are the right ones...I know they arent the straight 6 mounts....the motor was more level before we added the tranny to it...we had to move the motor a bit to get it to bolt up...the tranny is hitting a floor support....thanks Diana
Diana take a look at this post from Lonnie http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=16444&highlight=pedal
Diana,, here is a link to Charlie Pings site.. he has info on this install here. Charlie is a long timer here, but is so busy he is not here much. Great guy and I am sure if he has the time he will answer any questions you might have. Great site of his with tons of info. Dan http://www.maverickgrabber.com ps forgot that Lonnie had posted that great info here. As always,, this site is loaded with awesome info.
I have a T5 in my 70. Car was originally a 6 cylinder w/3-in-the-tree. Had to cut and reshape the top of the tunnel to make room for the shifter tube or you get the steep angle you mentioned. You have to get the angle right or the pinion angle will be off and that will cause problems like wheel hop, broken u-joints. I have a Lakewood bellhousing and used an adaptor plate from California Pony cars. I have the mechanical style linkage. As far as a shifter goes, the stock T5 shifters really suck, especially going from 2nd to 3rd. I put a Steeda TriAx in mine, made a world of difference. A lot of people swear by the Pro 5, you can buy different handles for just about any aftermarket shifter. The Steeda handle was too short, for a new Mustang. An old school Hurst flat chrome stick bolted right up. Looks period correct. I modified the original crossmember. In my case the dropped center portion had to be cut out and welded back in 1 1/2" farther rearward.
